Wat je gaat doen

Explore downtown LA! The "Nobody Walks in LA" DTLA Los Angeles walking tours are designed to provide a link between local history, community, and the ways that urban spaces transform when explored by foot. Tour organizer Brande Jackson teaches in the American Studies departments of CSULB and also serves as the program director of Living Histories, a non-profit organization devoted to community and creativity.

Each walk brings together a mixture of community members and tourists of all ages and backgrounds. The walks emphasize the often overlooked and untold stories that shaped the unique history of Los Angeles, and some tours also emphasize “the city as creative inspiration” via street photography and writing. A key element of the tours, though, is simply helping people see Los Angeles in new ways; many participants of the tours comment on how 'they had always meant to go...' to the various stops on the tour, and are suprised by the depth and history that such a small part of a large city has to offer.

We start at Union Station and make are way throughout all sorts of fun DTLA spots, with lots of stops along with way for food and drinks. Professor Jackson provides the backstory: history, folklore, urban legends, architectural notes and some ghost stories. If they group is interested, there can also be a focus on street photography, and writing stops, too.

I'm a college professor with a specialization in Los Angeles history. I have led walks of downtown Los Angeles for five years now, both for my students and as a project for my non-profit, Living Histories. The walks are not just history, but rather, focused on culture, untold stories, and fun food stops. They also incorporate photography and creative writing; I am also a professional photographer, working on the road for bands (as well and landscape photography), and a writer that leads writing workshops.
