Wat je gaat doen

In this online experience, I start by sharing the story behind how and why I became a Buddhist monk and about my meditation practice. Next, we’ll do two types of meditation together.

First is a chanting mantra for 20 minutes. This type of meditation allows you to go deep into your practice. Next we will do a 10-minute breathing-out meditation. Afterwards, you’ll share your questions and reflections on the practice.

I am also happy to offer other meditations, such as meditation with a candle or mirror, Qigong, Sutra copying, and counting meditation, one of the basic Zen practices.

I've been a Buddhist monk for nearly 20 years. I worked in Shitennoji Temple for 12 years as a monk, doing zen meditation. I have been doing guided meditations for Airbnb guests for five years, welcoming nearly 4,000 guests.

Suzuki-san was lovely to interact with. He was so jovial and friendly. Before beginning the meditation he explained how chanting was helpful and also explained the importance of breathing in a certain way and the impact it had. That was very helpful context to have. It was the first time I tried chanting and was a unique experience. The one hour flew by and I felt myself wanting to spend even more time meditating :) All in all a lovely experience, definitely recommend.

Suzuki-san is very friendly with sense of humor. He has put a lot of thoughts on how to explain the key elements of meditation to a beginner. What impressed me a lot is that he prepared a few tools to introduce the concepts. The tools are the items we use in daily life. The low-tech items help me feel easier to focus on meditation itself without distraction. It's a wonderful experience to learn about meditation with the background of Japanese culture.
