Wat je gaat doen

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city to the picturesque artists village Szentendre, located on the Danube 26km from Budapest. Get an intimate tour in a small group (max 6 people). Along the way you will also see some of Budapest's most famous sights, before leaving the city along the scenic Danube. You will ride in comfort on a 21-speed trekking bike with front suspension.
- our tour starts downtown near the Nyugati station. From there we will ride through Pest past St. Stephen's Basilica and the Hungarian Parliament
- next we will ride across Margaret Island, a city island with beautiful parks located in the middle of the Danube
- then we will cross over to Buda and head north to Római Part (Roman shoreline) a popular recreation area, where we will cool off with a drink on the shores of the Danube.
- then we continue on to Szentendre where we will have lunch in one of the restaurants in the charming old town (Hungarian and international options available). You will also have time to look around the baroque town center and its shops.
- then we will return back to Budapest by train (although riding our bikes back is an option)

I moved to Budapest seven years ago on a 3-year assignment, but fell in love with the city and stayed. After many years in the corporate business world I decided to take some time to pursue other interests and to spend more time doing things I am passionate about, such as showing fun people around my adopted home town.

Waar je naartoe gaat

My goal is to give you a relaxed tour in a small group. The main destination is the famous artists village Szentendre, but along the way you will also see some of Budapest's top sights, Margaret Island, as well as areas along the Danube where locals go to relax in the summer The tour covers approx. 30km/19mi over flat terrain and takes 7-8 hrs including refreshement & lunch breaks (can be extended to 55km/34mi if you want).

Matthias showed up with a full-day plan both fun and accommodating - we didn't have to bring anything except athletic attire and positive mental attitude. We started our tour from a few historical sites and impressive architectures in the east bank of Pest, admiring the rich history of this city, and then ventured to the side of Buda, rode along a natural path full of locals chilling at sidewalk pubs. Our destination, Szentendre, is an artsy town. Along the cobblestoned streets you'll find galleries, arts, crafts, and gelato stores, perfect for a post-ride bite. Throughout the day Matthias shared his stories living in this majestic city as an expat and we traded many adventure stories. I would recommend this trip for anyone who's looking for a unique experience here in Budapest!

This experience with Matthias is great. We biked around 16 miles through Budapest to the small town of Szentendre. The view is great. There are parts of the road that's a little bumpy, but in general it's a very enjoyable ride. We biked back and forth, but you could also choose to ride a train back. It's very flexible. We stopped for a beer and had lunch together at nice spots. Overall it's very enjoyable experience.

Matthias has a deep knowledge of local history, and took us around the Budapest landmarks, but the best part was the trip out to Szentendre with a stop at the coolest venue I've seen in my life, on the banks of the Danube. Having a small group really worked well for us, we could easily ask questions and stop for a photo, and it felt like a visit with a friend rather than an organised tour. I can strongly recommend this , especially if you like to see things by bike. (David) I also really enjoyed this tour. It is very interesting and scenic. There is a small mountain biking section over uneven terrain but most of the trip is on paved or tarred paths, eg through parks, forests and along the river. It is very flat and Matthias is flexible about stopping for drinks or ice-creams. It is possible to return by train but we enjoyed the cycling so much we really wanted to cycle back. Great experience, definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Budapest. (Bren)

This tour is a perfect way of touching base with the entire city guided by Matthias who is excellent, accommodating and informative. What I loved about it is discovering hidden spots throughout the tour that you wouldn’t normally come across on your Budapest trip. Highly recommend it but do come mentally prepared to cover long distances.

This is not your typical bike tour. You're taken through the downtown area, over Margrit Island to another side of life for the Budapest locals. It shows you how the locals live. You get to see classic examples of Communist era housing, the water activity area on the Danube where you stop for a drink, rides along bike paths and quiet streets, a stop for great ice cream, and chat to Matthias about what it's like to live in this eclectic city. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and recommend highly, especially if you interested in how the locals live.

A perfect way to spend your time in Budapest- get off the beaten path and enjoy this perfectly planned bike route that takes you on both sides of the Danube through picturesque Margit Island park, Old Buda and more. With short, informative stops along the way plus 2 bonus stops for treats, rest and more beautiful scenery! Matthias was a friendly, personable guide who we enjoyed and appreciated very much. This is a “don’t miss” opportunity- we have been coming to Budapest for many years and this was truly a highlight. Highly recommended.
