Wat je gaat doen

We're going to get wet! We'll meet at the local surf shop and get you kitted out with a wetsuit for a day on the ocean. From there, we'll launch the boat from Kommetjie slipway and head out to discover what mother nature has to offer. We'll run along some of the local surf spots where you can simply sit and watch or try your hand at towing behind the boat. From there we'll head to the outer reefs where, if conditions are right, you'll be able to experience the ocean at it's most powerful at our big wave surfing spots. As we head north, we'll take in spectacular scenery along the way, viewing Chapman's peak as you've never seen it before. At the Duiker Island seal colony is where you'll expereince a one on one interaction with the 'puppies of the sea'. Throughout the day the rule is to always keep your eyes open, there's no telling what you might see. From a passing whale to a pod of dolphins, the ocean is always full of surprises which makes this ocean experience so unique, no two trips are ever the same. At the end of our ocean adventure we'll stop at one of the local eateries to share some salty sea tales over a drink or two.

My tour with James was easily the best part of my two week trip. James was knowledgeable of both aquatic sports but also the geological history and social history of the area. His tour provides the most unique exploration of Cape Town. Most people see Cape Town from the mountains looking down, his is the only tour to look at the mountains from the Sea up. Taking this tour is not a suggestion it’s a requirement for anyone visiting Cape Town!!

James was the most wonderful guide on this experience. It is honestly a once in a lifetime experience that will never be forgotten! He's so knowledgable about the history of cape town, the sea, the surf, and even the animals that we saw! He has a vast knowledge of information about the adventure and it was truly a pleasure to be able to experience this! We started out with a coffee at Kommetjie while waiting for the surf shop to open, where James explained the history of Cape Town and how the towns and bays came to be named. After getting our equipment we set off on what he rightly described as an adventure! It was amazing and so awe-inspiring the vast ocean and the power of the waves. The weather was quite chilly in the morning but gradually warmed up and turned out to be the perfect sunny day! James is well prepared with waterproof jackets, and extra wetsuit top and snacks/water/dry bag. Everything you think you need was provided for! We then travelled quite a distance to see a crane wreck which was pretty awesome! And next we went on to what i thought was the highlight of the whole trip. The seals! Initially the water was choppy and the weather quite chilly so there weren't many in the water, but we killed some time snorkelling amongst the kelp forests and seeing abalone shells (and collecting a few beautiful ones). Pretty soon the sun came out and the seals came into the water to swim! It was quite scary initially, cause you never know what to expect from animals in the wild, but they were curious and gentle, and just so graceful in the water. They never bothered me, just swimming close and even brushing along your hands. It was just amazing to see these thousands of seals living on a rock island. We then headed into calmer waters where James showed me the basics of paddle boarding and even a little toe surfing (both of which i'm far from mastering), but it was so fun and such a nice new experience. All in all I would rate this experience 6 stars if I could! From communication, to service, to knowledge and the experience itself, if you're in cape town, try this!

An incredibly fun half day on the water, highly recommended if you want something different and more active. James knows the waters incredibly well -- he grew up here, was a big wave surfer, turned commercial scuba diver and now a generalist water freak! We spent a good 4-5 hours on the water, taking in the incredible views, looking at a recent shipwreck, snorkelling with seals (a great experience, and much better with James than with a large tour group), and rounding off the day with some stand up paddle boarding and even 'waterskiing' behind the board on the stand up paddle board. Really fun.

this trip is absolutely amazing! the snorkeling with seals was incredible and quite honestly only once i was back i really started to grasp everything i saw and experienced there. the seal colony is on a small island off the cliffy coast and there are more then 10,000 seals there. once you're in the water they're just everywhere around you. naturally curious they'll come and have a look at you the same way you try to have a look at them. don't mind if you gat a light pat by one of them :) the only thing i regret is not having an underwater camera! James is a fantastic guide, telling a lot of interesting facts about the area and it's wildlife. he will go out of his way to make this trip perfect for you, e.g. we talked about ship wrecks and James took me to another one that is leans dramatically against a cliff. quite honestly James made the whole atmosphere of the trip so relaxed and enjoyable, it felt like hanging out with a great mate. James and his friends also gave me lots of useful info for my next few days in the area. i really cannot find the words to describe it any better but let me say that next time i'm in cape town i will contact James again, this was so much fun i have to this again (with an underwater camera!). just go for it and you will see with your own eyes! a brief warning: the boat is small and will rock around and jump over waves, you need to grab a hold properly. if that's ok for you you'll have a trip that is second to none! james made sure that i never feel unsafe.

What an amazing experience! James was great with us, really easy going, helpfull and friendly. He explained many interesting facts about the area that we ignored. The weather was perfect, as James predicted, a little bit of swell but no wind. We cruised along the coast with the dinghy and saw things that are impossible to visualize from the land. At the same time, James explained the geographical features of the land. Really interesting! As we were heading towards the seal colony, we saw a sun fish, none of us were expecting that, even James was amazed! What a spectacular creature. Also there was a seal jumping over it, seeking to play! We floated around in the dinghy just enjoying this beautiful scenery! The most amazing part was when we arrived at the seal colony and swam with the seals. It's an experience you can not explain with words, you have to live it! There are around 10.000 seals. They are completely peaceful and harmless. They just swim around you, check you out and are very curious! James was making sure that we were ok at all times, never took his eye off us. If eather of us felt a bit nervious, he would swim with us back to the dinghy where we would regain courage. It takes a couple of minutes to feel completely at ease with the fact that you are swimming with seals, but once you've done that, you begin to relax and enjoy every minute of it! On the way back, we also had the chance to do some paddle surf. The sea was flat and we were able to keep our balance really well, even though it was the first time we had done it! All in all, it was an incredible experience. If you are staying in Kommetjie or visiting I would highly recommend you get in touch with James that will take you on this amazing adventure. My partner and I are very happy we did it and will never forget it. It's a once in a lifetime experience!
