Wat je gaat doen
Have you ever explored the foot town of the Skytree yet? Ryogoku, an area close to tourist spots like Sky Tree, Asakusa, and Akihabara, has become well known for Sumo wrestling. But behind the glory of Sumo, this town has a long, complicated, and chaotic history. Since it is very close to where Edo Castle used to be, it has played an important role as the center of Tokyo since the days of samurai rule. I will take you on a tour of hidden historic sites that reflect this complicated history, As we go along, I will explain intriguing stories about the people who used to live here and reveal information only locals know about. First we meet up at Kiyosumishirakawa station, and will go toward the north along the Sumida River. It has acted as Tokyo's gateway to the sea since ancient times. We will walk over an industrial bridge, more historic sites like the Kira Residence Remains (47 Ronin), a buddhist temple, a traditional Japanese garden park, sword museum, and a war memorial park. By the end, I hope you will be convinced that Ryogoku is not just a place for Sumo, and understand that how this small town has overcome tragedies and made a great recovery.

I am a 25 year old nationally licensed tour guide who loves to find secret spots and chill at slow-paced, cozy cafes. "Tokyo Hidden Gems", a community I made has now 400 members. I have been fortunate enough to have opportunities to visit 33 out of 47 prefectures in Japan since I was a child, thanks to my parents who are passionate travelers, which has raised my interests in traveling and let me work in the tourism industry after graduation. I have experiences of working at a stylish hostel, and at the largest travel agency in Japan. Let's take a walk and find your own hidden gems with me!

Waar je zult zijn
We'll meet up at Kiyosumi-shirakawa station, and then walk toward the north. In this area, there are some parks, which were originally owned and taken care of by celebrities, so they have been kept in good condition. In contrast, a war memorial park and a Buddhist temple tell us about the tragedies caused by the Great Tokyo Air Raid. Lastly, Ryogoku contains the origins of the 47 Ronin story. Recommended for culture and history fan.
