Wat je gaat doen
We will meet in Aghios Nikolaos or Elounda to start our day together. We will take a drive to the fishing village of Plaka for morning coffee beside the beach with a fabulous view of Spinalonga Island (subject of the novel The Island). After our break we will take a leisurely drive along the north coast, stopping at a rocky cove to gather sea salt from the pools at the edge of the water. The coast line is dramatic and remote and there will be an opportunity to take a gentle stroll and admire the wild flowers that grow here in adundance. Further along the coast we will turn inland, stopping occasionally to gather wild herbs, thyme, sage and oregano. We will then return to Plaka for an al Fresco specially designed lunch, including ingredients such as horta (wild greens), fava, trahana flavoured sauce with pork, chicken souvlaki with wild oregano and much more. Dessert will be the light and delicate filo pastry cake served with homemade icecream, and to finish locally produced raki. Wine for the meal will be from the excellent Lyrarakis vineyard, which is leading the field in re-discovering ancient strains of grape. We will then make our way back to Elounda and our accommodation

I am a Cordon Bleu Diploma cook and cookery writer from the UK who has settled on the island of Crete and become fascinated by the quality of the food produced here. In the light of the recent Masterchef Cookery programme I have decided to add this experience to the others I offer. The winner of this competition was Irini Tzortzoglou originally from a small farm just outside Heraklion. Her use of Cretan ingredients proved a huge success and presented the judges John Torrode and Greg Wallace with ingredients that they had never heard of, and their reaction was amazement. I have lived on Crete for almost twenty years and during that time I have had the pleasure of discovering tavernas and restaurants that excel using traditional ingredients. I have been working with some of these to produce a range of dishes to delight guests.

Waar je naartoe gaat
Crete's north coast is wild and romantic and the coves we will visit are off the beaten tourist trail. The dishes presented for lunch are specially commissioned for these trips and not available elsewhere.
