Casa Puesta del Sol

Enchanting views, exciting activities and five-star accommodations await at Casa Puesta del Sol. With a name that means ‘sunset’ in Spanish, the luxury villa delivers with panoramas of three different bays and the Costa Rican rainforest. A location within the exclusive Los Suenos resort gives guests access to shared amenities like a marina and beach club, while five bedrooms can host the whole family or a group of friends. During your stay, be sure to explore the resort’s beach club, marina, restaurants and bars; you can also play a round on the golf course at extra cost. There are also rewards to staying ‘home’ at the private villa; the house opens to a covered loggia with a dining area from which you can step directly into the infinity pool and hot tub, or cross to a sunny terrace with its own lounge area. (There’s even a shallow section of the pool where you can park a lounge chair.) Flip on the villa’s sound system to set the mood, or share vacation photos with friends back at home via Wi-Fi. Incredible views pair with elegant furnishings to create an unforgettable ambience in this hillside Costa Rica rental home. The center of the house is a two-story atrium with a sweeping staircase, wrought-iron railings and a classic black and white tile floor. The space opens to generous rooms with large windows, from the comfortable living room to a formal dining room with a painted ceiling motif and European-style built-in china cabinet. The fully equipped kitchen features a breakfast bar set on an angle, so cooks working at the island have a view of the water. Each of the five bedrooms at Casa Puesta del Sol has an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. There are two bedrooms with king beds (one of which opens to a balcony so you can take full advantage of the warm weather), two bedrooms with two double beds each, and one bedroom with a queen bed. With dark wood furnishings, woven screens, colorful bedding and large windows, the bedroom suites have inviting tropical style. The location of this luxury home in Los Suenos puts you within minutes of several things to do, from golf (a 3-minute drive away) to the beach, Playa Herradura (a 4-minute drive away). If you’d like to see more of the area, spend an afternoon at nearby Playa Jaco or Playa Blanco, or book a fishing expedition—the waters just off the resort are famous for it. You can also take a day trip to the city of San Jose, about 60 miles away. You’ll want to book your flights into Juan Santamaria International Airport, a 60-minute drive from Casa Puesta del Sol. Casa Alang Alang

Built with materials from Indonesia and boasting views of the ocean in two directions, Casa Alang Alang is the perfect marriage of relaxed Balinese style and unforgettable Costa Rican scenery. Built atop a hill near the Tamarindo estuary, the property has views along Playa Grande—including vistas of the sunset over the Pacific—and a location a short walk from the beach and town. Seven suite-style bedrooms, including one in a guest house, make the expansive villa feel like your own private beach resort. At Casa Alang Alang, wake up each day and enjoy a breakfast that’s already been prepared before stepping outside and deciding which of the two pools will be your first swim of the day. Sunbathe in the lounge chairs on the deck, nap in the hammock, exercise in the fitness room or book a treatment on the massage table. Rinse off in the outdoor shower before preparing dinner on the barbecue and sitting down to eat at the al-fresco dining area. Though it feels secluded, the villa is fully connected with Apple TV and Wi-Fi. The villa was designed by California architect Steve Adams to take advantage of the gorgeous views, with living spaces that can be completely opened to the outdoors. In the great room, a vaulted ceiling adds to the breezy feeling, as do woven sofas and chairs with sophisticated charcoal cushions. Just next to the sitting area, the generous ironwood dining table seats everyone in wicker chairs. The fully equipped kitchen is open to the rest of the space, but a separate walk-in pantry allows for storage and prep work. If the beach views aren’t enough and you need to put your toes in the sand, it’s a 5-minute walk from the villa to Pangas Beach Club and the town center.
