Huisjes in Heads Nook

We spent 5 nights here at the end of March and start of April 2025. We were really fortunate with the weather and took full advantage of the wonderful location: scaling Slight Side and Scafell on one day, riding to Coniston via the bridleway on another and 'bagging' most of the Coniston fells on another day via Wrynose Pass. We ate in on a couple of nights and also went to the Wainwright's for some pub grub, as well as Stoves for their evening menu. Simon and Belinda's place is very well situated in Great Langdale for all kinds of walks and rides, food and decent pints. The house itself is a lovely place to return to in the evening with easy parking outside for our van and once inside, everything is spotless, well equipped and cosy. We really appreciated all the helpful information on bike routes and walking routes and spent the late evenings by the fire pouring over the Wainwright books planning the next day's adventures. 100% recommended.

We loved this place! Its peaceful with good local walks, a pub just down the road. Tea and coffee and a loaf of bread were provided which was very welome. We'd brought our 2 dogs along, and Soraya had thoughfully left some dog treats out too. Just outside there was a hot tub, which was a real bonus, and a great way to relax after a day out walking.

Lovely few days stay, Hayley was very friendly and helpful. Cottage is stunning, much bigger than the photos show and had everything’s we needed. Beds very comfy and big en-suites in every room (although there was only 2 of us) secure garden for our two miniature dachshunds which was great. Location is very peaceful and quiet. Can recommend lunch at the Cumberland which was about a 10 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful cottage. Was perfect for us and the dogs. Fully enclosed fenced garden with a gate down to a quiet riverside walk. The hottub was huge and warm ready for our arrival. Everything we needed was available in the kitchen. We only stayed for 1 night so cannot comment on the local area as we did not do much exploring but we noticed a spar walking distance just down the road and a few cafes.

Gatecroft barn (& spa!) is a delightfully quaint little cottage in a fairly remote part of the North Pennines area. My wife and I were looking for somewhere almost off grid, from which we could walk our dog, enjoy walks together and indulge in a spot of fell running. We needed it to be not tooooo far from some kind of shops and close enough to drive if we fancied somewhere special to eat. We were also looking for somewhere with a little something else, a cherry on top. Well we found that, in spades! Garrigill is picturesque and then some. There are walks/ runs from the front door! The cottage is well equipped. The hot tub (the cherry on top!) is perfect for after the adventurous days in the great outdoors - hygiene and cleanliness of which is exemplary. The host was as helpful as you could hope for (def one of the better hosts we’ve come across!) and made some great recommendations - most of which we used and welcomed! Including a meal at Langley Castle. We’ll definitely go back… 5*

We had a wonderful 6 days in this beautiful and charming cottage. It’s well kitted out, clean, has stunning views and is full of character. It’s easy to find. It’s Quiet. The hot tub was an excellent addition and in a perfect spot. The only downside was that it was quite a drive into the north/west lakes but we did know that and expected it to be the case before we arrived. There’s lots of lovely nearby walks too. I’d definitely recommend. You will not be disappointed, it’s a lovely place to stay.

We had a really nice stay. The cottage was lovely and well kept with great shower facilities and little touches including a welcome pack of local produce. Sharon came to clean the hot tub each morning with the filter being changed between guests, bbq area (with large disposable BBQ to use, birds singing in a sheltered garden. Bathroom and hot tub towels provided, washing machine and tumble dryer easy to use. The beds were comfy and blackout blinds in all rooms. Beautiful surroundings; able to walk 30 minutes to an ice cream farm with play area or drive 5 minutes to Lowther castle

We had an absolutely lovely time staying at High Swinside. Diana was an amazing host and went out of her way to make us all feel comfortable. I would highly recommend any of her cottages.

Lovely little house. Received advice on the way in that the house was ready and we could check in early without asking if we could. Just a 30 min drive to Scafell for the corridor and popular routes up. Great pizza place nearby and curry delivery spot on.

we had a fantastic 4 days in the cottage, everything was as described, what a lovely quiet place with fantastic views. would definitely recommend and would love to stop again.

Great location for what we were doing. Hosts very helpful and responsive. Accommodation lovely and cosy, traditional cottage with modern features inside. Hopefully will stay again.

Outstanding cottage, would love to come back soon! The photos don’t do it justice! It’s even better when you’re there. Spotlessly clean, beautiful kitchen/dining room and comfortable bed. The views from the back garden were fab! I can’t recommend this enough, would have happily stayed there longer and will definitely return. It was a lovely gesture that Kate even baked for us!! Lovely cottage in a great location. We really enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable, Diane has thought of everything and the little extras like the dog blankets/bowls were very much appreciated. The wood burner made us extra cosy when we had a rainy evening. Great to have parking and somewhere near to exercise our dog. An ideal location , we had days out to Kielder Forest & Seahouses as well as exploring the Roman fort sites. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hopefully we will be back. Thank you.

A wonderful cottage in a fabulous location. Fizz, fresh bread and homemade jam to greet us. Lovely warm and surprisingly large cottage with a gorgeous view of the ford. Great walks straight from the door with wildlife aplenty (sadly no red squirrels but our host did point us to a hotel where we managed to see them). All in all, a cracking place to stay.

The perfect country cottage in a gorgeous setting. Pheasants, rabbits and beautiful fairy lights in the secluded courtyard for a relaxing evening. Well equipped kitchen with a lovely selection of herbal teas, comfy beds and although we didn't need the log burner, it promises a cosy feel on cooler nights. Helen is a fab host and we will definitely be back .

We had a lovely weekend at Nicola's! The views of the Pennines were wonderful - seeing all the lambs playing in the morning was very sweet. Lots of lovely walks with waterfalls and rivers a short drive away. Would fully recommend! Thanks for a lovely stay - no issues whatsoever!

Great cottage, beautifully decorated in a really sweet village

A wonderful stay and an excellent host. Anthony was friendly, welcoming and proactive. His instructions were extremely helpful and we were pleased to find that the property was exactly as described and had all of the contents listed plus more. We felt right at home and relaxed for the duration. We would thoroughly recommend Anthony's house as a superb location to explore the lake district.

The Vault is the perfect place to stay while visiting Hexham. It really was a home from home. Super clean, cosy and a great location. Alex was a great, friendly host. Can’t recommend Alex and The Vault highly enough. Thank you Alex

The fact that I’m writing this review is a testament to how lovely Joan is and how much I want to support her business. It is a tragedy that our livelihoods now rely on other people’s personal opinions on the internet. However, Joan was lovely and I wish her all the best possible luck. We had a great night.

We love staying at April’s cottage, its truly a home from home. Location is perfect for a visit to the lakes with everything on your doorstep from great walks to cafes, restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. To top it off you have a fantastic sunny terrace to relax in after a day of exploring! Thanks again

Perfect spot for long weekend , cosy & comfortable accommodation and food in the adjoining Pheasant Inn was outstanding. Peter was fab dealing with any issues and great communication throughout. We appreciated the breakfast goodies of milk, juice, tea , coffee and cereals . Some noise from the pub in the evening but that was expected and certainly didn’t affect our enjoyment of staying!

This was a beautiful spot, nice & private & accessible to the lake for a beautiful sunset pic opportunity. Very clean & tidy on arrival & we tried our best to leave it as we found it.

Excellent time at Michael’s cottage in beautiful surroundings. Accommodating of extra requests from our side and very responsive throughout our stay. All in all, a fantastic weekend away!
