I would like to clarify the facts as they happened (the messages Don and I exchanged from the time he expressed interested in booking my unit through Airbnb system backs all I am going to say).
As part of my reservation policies I can take reservations to check in on the same date as long as they are done before noon, to be able to prepare and clean the place so that guest can start using it when it was just cleaned.
Don contacted me through the Airbnb site, well over 6:00 pm on January 18th, 2018, and asked if the unit was available to check in that same night. Initially replied it would be ready next day should they be interested, that is January 19th, 2018. Unit had not been occupied for over 2 weeks and obviously needed to be cleaned.
Also, Mexican satellite TV was not working (since I didn´t not have any guest that had reserved I had planned to fix this in the following days).
From the messages, I received from Don it appeared that they were desperate to have some place to spend the night since it was almost 9:00 pm.
I clearly stated that the unit had not been occupied for at least two weeks and that I needed to be cleaned, and also that the satellite tv was nor working and that I needed them to be ok, with those two issues before compromising the unit that night. They clearly stated that they were OK with those two subjects and wanted, still to go ahead and check in that same night.
After 9:00 pm on the 18th, I went to the building to meet with them and let them in, while I was on my way I contacted cleaning lady and pick her up to take them to the condo and clean it before having Don and their party check-inn; I thought it was a nice gesture on my part, taking into a consideration I am not a hotel and have no cleaning stuff 24/7. It turns out we had miss communicated the location where we should meet, since when I arrived at the building neither Don or other people on his party were there. Again, I contacted them and found out they had understood that we were to meet at a nearby grocery store, I said no problem and that I would be there to pick them up in 10 minutes. I left the cleaning ladies working in the condo while I went to pick them up.
Upon my arrival to grocery store, I meet with Don and three other adults, which unexpectedly, ask me then to take them in my car to pick their suitcases which they had left on a condominium which they had rented also through Airbnb. I accepted although nothing had been said to me regarding these. I took them there, waited for over 10 minutes for them to pick up their suitcases, and then take them to the building were my unit is located, this transportation process lasted at least 45 minutes, I charged $ 0.00 since I am not into the transportation business.
When we arrived to the unit, the only thing that was pending to be cleaned is the floors that were still wet but I asked them to wait no more than 10 minutes.
Since my Airbnb profile does not take reservations for the same day, they booked my unit from January 19th-January 25th, 2018.
We had to wait more than half an hour to have Don fix his payment method and that the reservation for the aforementioned period was confirmed by Airbnb system so I ended up investing around 90 minutes of my time in transporting these people and waiting for the to be able to set up a valid method payment that would be accepted by Airbnb. I am sure Airbnb can confirm all these, since it was done in their system.
They said they would pay for that night next day (January 18th) they never did. Condominium management disconnects water and gas to all units when there are not occupied for more than a week for security issues. Since they arrived after 11:00 pm, only water was re-connected (since they were no building maintenance staff at that hour). Don let me know later than 1:00 am January 19th, that they had no gas and that there was no hot water. By 8:30 next Monday both issues were fixed. Since gas had been disconnected, the water heather which operated with gas, did not work, hence there was not hot water until 8:30 next day. They felt that this was enough not to pay for the night, and did not recognize any effort on my part. Don, and two ladies on his party were reasonable people, but Richard was just very difficult to deal with.
I have screenshots of the communications as evidence of Don´s acceptance to the fact that unit was not clean when they first contacted me (although that was resolved that same night as I have mentioned before) and that Mexican satellite TV was not working. So, I really don´t understand how they would complain about it since I specifically ask them to be ok with these before I could accept to make the check in on January 18th, and they clearly did.
I hope this clarifies this unfair, unfounded reviews that do not check with the facts (as evidence of communications show).
