Welcome to this magical part of Somerset, only 3 miles from Glastonbury festival site! From quiet family get-togethers to golfing getaways – the Gothic Church is a unique and modern venue for all occasions and will ensure wonderful memories of your special celebrations.

Built in 1838 the Old Gothic Church stands in the sleepy village of East Horrington, 2 miles from Wells, Britain’s smallest city (it has a Cathedral, therefore it’s a city!) offering good shopping facilities as well as restaurants and pubs, a cinema, churches of most denominations, together with open-air markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wells is making a name for itself as a film location, the most recent productions which have been filmed here are “The Libertine” starring Johnny Depp, the hit movie Hot Fuzz and the second film about Queen Elizabeth 1st called “The Golden Age” starring Cate Blanchett. The Gothic Church is a fine example of early Victorian sacred architecture and has been recently renovated to the highest of modern standards. It is now a unique and stylish venue for private celebrations offering sumptuous living and working spaces and rooms with individual interiors.

Entering via the immense vaulted atrium you’ll find three downstairs bedrooms, one bathroom and one shower room and a fully-equipped 44ft kitchen/breakfast room. There are also stunning spaces for optional spa/pamper sessions.

Ascending the open-plan double staircase you will find on one side of the atrium the spectacular banqueting gallery with its three original stained glass windows. On the other side are three further bedrooms, another shower room and the spacious Chancel living room with its central glass wood-burning stove and impressive Gothic windows, with views as far as the mystical Glastonbury Tor and the Isle of Avalon.

Outside is a private decked courtyard complete with indoor hot tub and seating area. There is off-road parking for 3 cars with additional parking available further down the lane.

Countryside activities – The Mendip hills are a beautiful part of England where you can find activities to suit everyone. From peaceful walks, golf or horse-riding to more unusual sports such as clay-pigeon shooting, hot-air ballooning, karting, rock climbing and 4×4 off-roading
Eating In: You can plan to cook your own party meals to be enjoyed in the atmospheric banqueting gallery. If cooking is not your forte, you could select a local take-away to deliver, or arrange delicious catered meals by high quality chefs; delivered, served and cleared away – all great options and none needing taxis!
Eating Out: There is a wealth of local restaurants and cafes to choose from in Wells as you wander through the picturesque streets.

Hi I'm James and I am all about connections. I think I am mostly quite cheerful, friendly and accessible. I teach communication skills to business managers, so I hope I will communicate well with guests too. I used to be a volleyball coach for many years before this, but by far my favourite and most irresponsible job was working in Harrods toy warehouse in my gap year after school. Things I really value are animated conversations around a meal table, playing cards (which I don't do enough), loud modern art, formal gardens, running slowly, doing hot yoga stiffly and the odd glass of Baileys in front of the telly. I live in London with my partner Katy and Daisy who is 5. Incidentally I am setting up another wonderful property in the South of France at the moment, with lovely views of the Pyrenees mountain range, and I really enjoy finding spaces that are fun and unique to live and relax in. (Watch this space) Please enjoy the Gothic Church and respect the neighbourhood - and let us have any suggestions you can think of to make it an even more pleasant getaway.

We normally will only appear for the initial Meet and Greet and for Check Out only, although you may prefer a self-check during this 'COVID period'. We are happy to leave you alone to enjoy exclusive use of the Church, but of course you can call us if you need us at any time.
