Hi Petra, thank you for staying with us. When you were originally booking you changed your mind a few times and I was not sure at first if our place was a good fit for you. Having had a string of five star reviews and glowing written feedback I take seriously how to make our place outstanding and work to give it a personal touch.
Thank you for your kind comments about communication. I do work to be available almost 24 hours a day personally. And when I am in town I greet my travelers in person. I also offer our place for just the one bedroom in addition to the entire place and enjoy hosting in that fashion when we are in town. We travel a lot and it is nice to offer our place as a full listing when we are not in town and a one bedroom when we are. So I have lots of direct experience with different kinds of travelers. So I appreciate your gracious comments that my communication is excellent. Thank you.
As for our place, 95% of our guests have loved the decor and the views based on all the reviews here. In fact, I have added to the decor beyond what you see in the pictures with carpeting in the living room and artwork on the walls. And I do not include any pictures of the views only because I think the views of the harbor and skyline are lovely and so do most guests but I try not to over promise. Most guests have said the place is better than the pictures. We also have a balcony and I do not tout that so that travelers can be surprised and enjoy it. But I do not claim that we are on the water views even though the views and the sunrises and sunsets are amazing based on feedback from my guests.
With respect to how the apartment is decorated, there is a balance of aesthetic and clutter...and we try to offer something that appeals to many people. In addition, my family actually does LIVE there when we are in Boston. We are not some kind of big landlord with many places to offer to stay. This is our home in Boston. I think that is part of the spirit and intent of airbnb. So in all cases we have worked very hard to segment personal effects as best possible from travelers including offering plenty of room to store our guests belongings. But airbnb is not a hotel. And so yes when travelers arrive they will find our grand daughters toys tucked away in a corner. She plays with them when she visits. And since our place is child friendly I know of guests with children who have played with them. I think it adds to the character of the apartment.
When I am in town I am the housekeeper and have very high standards. When I am not in town I have a professional firm assist with maintenance and they also have very high standards.
On the open and visible shelves of the apartment are plates, bowls, glasses and cups for a full setting of four people using a decorator style set of expensive china from Japan. I would welcome your feedback on what is not sufficient in that offering. In the drawers are custom silverware for many people and utensils for cooking. On your kitchen counter were knives from one of the finest German cutlery firms.
The way we offer towels is based on some airbnb recommendations I have learned of; but most importantly all you had to do was send me a quick text asking about additional towels and I would have directed you to the LARGE supply of towels available in the hall closet. You could have used any and all of this supply. I have done this many times with other guests. The needs of guests vary and I am very willing to offer most anything in the way of help and support during your stay. In addition, as you saw there is a full laundry with supplies right in the apartment and you are free to use this for both towels and your own personal clothing. Many guests have done this and have been delighted to stay in a place where they can get their own laundry done during a long holiday where they are in places without such helpful facilities.
The review of my guests who were in the apartment just before you were glowing and they are Europeans also on vacation. So I think our place is perfect for someone on holiday in Boston. The persons who have come into the apartment yesterday, a few days after your departure, sent me a text upon arrival stating how amazing the apartment is. And they are in Boston on business at The Convention Center.
Finally...with respect to your overall stay...I have to say I am a little confused. After your arrival I reached out to communicate to see if I could help in any way. I always do (Website hidden by Airbnb) give a guest a chance to ask a question or resolve any additional needs...like how to find a good place to eat or buy food in addition to the suggestions found on my listing. Here is your exact reply:
Thanks for checking. Everything went fine and your detailed explanations made it easy. You have a wonderful view from the apartment.
So here I am just a little confused as it seems I have feedback from two very different people and it sort of does not make sense to me. But I do thank you for that comment that the views are wonderful, I do agree.
What I have learned from your stay is that I shall add additional pictures of my amenities of dishes, cutlery and other items to be very clear. It is helpful to learn from your visit. And I trust that your future airbnb experiences will live up to your expectations. Thank you, John
