A beautiful barn recently converted. Located close to Greve in Chianti, this tasteful traditional home with swimming pool, private garden, and outdoor dining is the perfect Escape to the Chianti for 4-6 people. Set amidst olive trees, the garden overlooks the pool with panoramic views of Tuscan hills of cypress, olives and vines. Positioned in the centre of the Chianti Region you are ideally situated to explore the splendour of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, plus many unspoilt ancient villages.

De ruimte
The barn is in three main areas. The master bedroom suite has a glorious, draped, four-poster double bed and a magnificent Tuscan corner fireplace, with double shuttered doors opening to the garden. There’s plenty of hanging and clothes space in a large double wardrobe. The en suite has a large walk in shower wet area, flushing toilet and washbasin, with space for toiletries. A lockable door leads to the living area.

With a shuttered door opening to the garden, the living area has a comfortable double sofa bed, leather chairs and pouffes for relaxing or watching television. We’ll add clothes storage if this is to be used as a bedroom. The kitchen is open plan and is fully equipped for 6 people including an extending breakfast/ dining table and chairs. Complete with full sized oven, electric hob, dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee machine, electric kettle and toaster, there should be everything you need but, if not, just ask. The en suite shower room has walk in shower, flushing toilet, washbasin and space for toiletries.

The double or twin (just let us know your preference) loggia room has large windows overlooking another loggia and garden area. With its own double wardrobe, chest of drawers and makeup/ dressing table area, it’s an ideal space for a couple or two adults or children. The en suite shower room has a large frosted window and walk in shower, flushing toilet and washbasin with storage for toiletries.

The garden and property are secured by fencing and electric gates as there are many wild deer around who will want to munch our plants. If you’re lucky you might spot a Tuscan porcupine or cinghiale (wild boar) on your travels, but our fences keep us safe. Three feral community cats visit us for food.

Greti, Toscane, Italië

The small river Greve flows through the town. In Greve you will find a charming cobbled square (actually a triangle - take a look at the photo section) flanked by original arcades of shops and restaurants. Every Saturday there is a thriving locals market selling fresh fish, cheese, fruit and veg, clothes, shoes, plants, food and household items. There is a cinema, several banks, two butchers (macelleria), pasticceria, many good restaurants and gelateria, bakeries and great gift shops selling ceramics, jewelery and local Tuscan wares.
The Co-op is very well stocked with typical Italian food, wine and essentials, with a fresh butchery and cheese counter. It’s good value, but note it is closed on Wednesday afternoon and Sunday. There are three petrol stations, two on the way into Greve, and one in the centre.
Greve in Chianti is the Medieval heart of the Chianti wine region with many registered Black Cockerel vineyards where you can do wine and olive oil tasting. Some have their own restaurants and shops. Our favourites include our neighbours at Terreno and Santa Stefano. Terreno has an excellent restaurant serving degustation menus pairing their own wines; both Terreno and Santa Stefano are excellent value wine producers that will do tours of their vineyards and production. Another favourite is Villa Vigna Maggio where Much Ado About Nothing and other movies were filmed – delightful Italian gardens and terrace restaurant. You cannot miss traditional pizza with Alessandro in Greve – be prepared for an hilarious evening with plenty of Prosecco, Chianti and Italian kitchen drama… He’s passionate that gluten free eaters feel spoilt so try the GF pizzas, pastas and desserts. Tuscany is very tuned into food intolerances, and Greve is no exception.
Depending on when you come you can join in the Chianti wine festivals in Greve, Panzano and the hilltop village of Montefioralle overlooking Greve, where Amerigo Vespucci lived. There’s the ‘long table’ meal in the centre of Greve where you can eat with the locals, free opera performances in the square and plenty of artisan markets. Much of the joy of Tuscany is in its food and wine but there are churches, castles, monasteries and convents all around, many with precious frescoes and hidden treasures. We spend quite a lot of our time in Florence that has great exhibitions and even an art deco cinema showing films in their original language. We love Oltrarno, the ‘other side of the Arno’ where the real Florentines still live and artisans work in tiny workshops in the side streets within the historic city walls. If you want to stay, book our garden apartment early enough for a central Florence experience.

The countryside surrounding Greve is mainly scenic Tuscan hills, a great attraction for cyclists and walkers. There are many official walking routes that you can discover by visiting the helpful Tourist Information Centre in the corner of the main square in Greve by the municipal building.
If you love wine, then September is a must, as there wine festivals in Greve the 1st weekend, followed by Panzano [7km from Greve] the 2nd and Montefioralle [which over looks Greve] the 3rd

Hi - we're John and Christine. We were married in Venice and decided to sell up in the UK and come and live in Florence permanently. Having experienced exotic places such as India, French Polynesia, South America, Malaysia and buzzing cities such as Boston, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Moscow, we have always spent more time in Italy than any other country. From Sorrento to Bologna, Ischia to Lucca, Capri to San Gimignano, we have stayed all over Italy but always our heart was in Toscana. Now we enjoy the Chianti, the unbelievably flavoursome vegetables and fruit that grow like magic here, the dolce vita but mostly the Italian people and culture. Our neighbours are Fiorentini artisans and restaurant owners who help us with our Italian and anything that needs fixing. We want you to enjoy staying in Oltrarno as much as we love living there so the apartment is designed for you to relax, cook, socialise, eat outside and enjoy all the sights of Florence in easy walking distance. We love wandering down to Piazza Santo Spirito to eat or buy from the food and regular vintage and antiques markets. But mostly we love aperitivo in the garden with friends.
