Enjoy a peaceful retreat from the busy modern world in a 14th century farmhouse within Dartmoor National Park. Nattor Farm is located at the end of a track right on the moors. Remote and secluded, it provides an ideal base for walking, cycling and for wild swimming at Tavy Cleave.
The traditional cobbled yard (sadly making it inaccessible for wheelchair users) has parking for 2 vehicles. Complete with wifi, a bath and shower, two bedrooms, and cosy sitting room with woodburner.

De ruimte
Number 2 Nattor Farm is one part of an historic Dartmoor frontier farm, being the final settlement on the moor in the Tavy Valley. No longer part of a working farm, the property is entered through a farm gate and parking is in the traditional cobbled yard which is shared with Number 1 Nattor Farm, available soon on Airbnb. There is secure storage for bikes in one of the granite outbuildings. Please note we do not allow dogs to visit to protect the wildlife in our gardens and ponds and livestock on the moor. The house has central heating and hot water for showers, baths and washing up on demand. The cosy sitting room has a wood burner set within a large inglenook fireplace with original clome oven and a brick and slate hearth. We will provide you with logs and kindling. There are two comfy sofas and a south facing window seat with a lovely view. As well as wi-fi to provide internet connection for your entertainment you will find board and card games, jigsaws and books to while away the evenings in front of the fire. As you come in from the front porch you will find a small settle to take off your walking boots with storage space underneath. Next door, the study with a desk offers a peaceful separate workspace or retreat for quiet times. It is well stocked with local maps, Dartmoor walking guides and novels. Both these rooms have original slate floors.
The spacious, well equipped kitchen, with induction hob and fan oven, has glorious views across the moors and down the Tavy Valley. A large oval table and dining chairs offer plenty of room for relaxed dining and the kitchen cupboards and drawers contain a good range of equipment for cooking and baking.
We provide you with all the essentials such as an ironing board, iron, cleaning equipment and washing machine. As we have a septic tank we will also provide eco friendly washing and cleaning products.
The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a shower over the bath, wash basin, lavatory and large heated towel rail.
The two bedrooms are upstairs. The larger bedroom has a king sized double bed, chest of drawers and built in cupboard with a shelf and hangers. This room has a window seat with views over the traditional yard and the moors beyond. The second window faces south and provides good light and views.
The smaller bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers, clothes hanging hooks and views to the north over the yard to the moors.
The kitchen door opens onto a south facing garden. Here you will find a large paved area, with a picnic bench which is a perfect sun trap on a sunny day and is for your exclusive use.
There is parking for 1 or 2 vehicles in the yard.
Wifi is provided but, due to our remote location, faults on the line do occur from time to time. We are literally at the end of the line!
There are beautiful moorland walks from the farm gate and many paths to explore. The river Tavy, which flows close to Nattor Farm, provides many bathing and paddling pools as well as large flat rocks for picnicking and contemplating. When the river is not too high it can be crossed, with care, on foot to explore the far banks towards Standon Hill. There is also a wooden footbridge at Standon Steps, a short way downstream giving access to central Dartmoor. For wild swimming enthusiasts Kings Pool in Tavy Cleave (a 20 minute walk from Nattor), is featured in the book "Wild Swimming Walks, Dartmoor and South Devon".

Please note that Nattor Farm is situated around a mile from Willsworthy Firing Range which is used by the MOD for firing practice on particular days. On these days access to parts of the moor, including Tavy Cleave, is closed. The closed areas are clearly marked with red and white posts and closure is signalled by a red flag which is raised in the car park at Lane End and on top of Ger Tor which is visible from just outside the gate. A six week firing timetable is available to view on Dartmoor firing times GOV.UK.
Although the firing can be heard, if it is a still day or the wind blows from Willsworthy, it is usually only intermittent.
Please note that even on firing days there are many enjoyable routes available for walking and exploring locally. There is no firing during most school holidays and the whole month of August.
Walking maps are provided for use during your stay.

Lovely, quiet and remote, with no near neighbours, Nattor Farm is an historic, frontier settlement in a remote moorland location. A really special, secluded and unique place for a summer holiday or winters retreat. Enjoy the dark night sky and sounds of Dartmoor. Birdwatchers will enjoy experiencing the Cuckoos in spring, Ring Ouzels in summer and Fieldfares in winter to name but a few of the species which frequent this lovely spot. The gardens around the house provide homes for hedgehogs and there are several ponds in which newts, toads and frogs breed.
Nearby attractions:
Cholwell Riding Stables
Mary Tavy Inn- a 17th century Inn with food
Peter Tavy Inn - a charming 15th century pub with good food (4 miles)
Shops - Local shop and PO at Mary Tavy (3 miles)
Nearest supermarkets can be found in the ancient Stannary Town of Tavistock 6 miles away. One of Tavistock`s hidden gems, the historic Pannier Market, lies just off the busy high street and is surrounded by lively local shops and cafes including the renowned Country Cheeses and Dukes Coffee House. There are two indoor swimming pools, Meadowlands and Kelly College.
The lovely beaches on the north and south coasts of Cornwall and Devon are around an hours drive away and The Eden Project near St Austell makes a memorable day out.

I’m a potter and I love making colourful hand painted pottery for everyday use- you will find some of my pottery in the kitchen at Nattor Farm! My husband, Pete, is a retired head teacher and we have been renovating Nattor over the last few years. It has been Pete’s family home since the early 70s and, until recently, has been lived in by our various children and grandchildren. We love spending time in this beautiful place and look forward to welcoming visitors!

Tijdens je verblijf

There is a key safe so you can arrive anytime after 4pm and let yourself in. We advise you to arrive in daylight as the area is very dark after nightfall and the cobbles are uneven ! We will provide an information pack inside the house and will leave you to enjoy your peaceful holiday unless you wish to be welcomed on arrival (this can be prearranged).
Although we live 30 mins away we are often on hand if you need any help as we spend some time at Number 1, which is the adjacent property. We will also be available to contact via telephone should you have any issues during your stay. We will provide good directions.
