Location
The property is unique in that it offers space, location, easy access and private parking. Just four miles west of Swansea it is easily accessible via the M4 and via Mumbles Road and has ample driveway off-road parking with space for up to four cars.

The Wales coastal path and Swansea bike path opposite offers Blackpill Lido, coastal, park and country walks and family cycling routes.

Mumbles is the gateway to the Gower Peninsula. Whilst staying at Lapis House you will have easy access to around 30 beautiful bays and beaches, many coastal paths, parks, golf courses and much more.

About our home
We have recently refurbished, adding many new features specifically designed for our guests’ comfort and enjoyment. Families, couples and business stays are all welcome.

For your comfort, heating and electricity are from sustainable sources. There is high-speed fibre broadband with unlimited free Wi-Fi. Perfect for multiple devices.

Outside
At the front, our outside space consists of large open lawns, mature gardens with beautiful views of the beach and sea, gardens, a front terrace and pond.

To the rear of the property is a private courtyard. The courtyard has a gazebo with an outdoor dining area and a private terrace which is ideal for relaxing. This area is easily accessed from the kitchen and dining area and also through the lockable gate which leads to the front terrace, lawn and gardens.

Inside
Ground Floor
At the front of the house is a large lounge with a large picture window that gives stunning panoramic views of the front terrace, pond, front lawn, gardens, sea and promenade. It is the perfect place to sit and watch the sun rise, or to enjoy an early evening drink. There is comfortable seating with lots of space to relax, watch television, or listen to music.

To the rear of the ground floor is a very spacious kitchen and dining area, providing a comfortable family dining experience with the option for 6 guests at the indoor dining or access to outdoor dining in the rear courtyard. There is also a television, so no squabbling over what to watch!
The kitchen has a ceramic electric hob, double oven and microwave, dishwasher, American style fridge freezer with ample storage space, crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils and glassware. A high chair is available on request.

There is also a water closet (wc) with wash basin and a laundry room with laundry and drying facilities on the ground floor.

First Floor
There are three bedrooms, named after our favourite local bay and the artwork on display in each room.

The Three Cliffs room is our largest bedroom. It has a king-size bed, ensuite and balcony which is the perfect place to sit, relax and watch the world go by over a coffee. A travel cot can be provided for those who like a family bedroom.

The Langland Bay also has a king size bed and wash basin for your convenience. Both have stunning beach, sea and garden views and have recently been reconfigured, so that you can open the curtains and take in the views of the front lawn, gardens and sea, whilst enjoying your early morning tea in bed.

The Caswell Bay room has twin beds and also has a wash basin. This room overlooks the private to the rear of the house and has twin beds.

The Area and Local Amenities

Mumbles
The Gower Peninsula, which was the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to be recognised in the UK, and is surrounded by beautiful beaches, with over seventy square miles of countryside to explore.

Whilst staying at Lapis House you will have easy access to Mumbles itself, to the Gower Peninsula and its beaches, the many coastal paths, country walks, cycling paths, sailing, water sports, golf courses and much more.

Mumbles itself is a former fishing community and Victorian seaside village. The heart of Mumbles village is just a short stroll from our home along the coastal promenade. In the village you are spoilt for choice as there are numerous bars, restaurants and takeaways, plus a combination of independent local shops, supermarkets and boutiques.

You can also visit Oystermouth Castle. This 12th century site has stunning views over Swansea Bay and holds various events throughout the year.

At Mumbles Head you can also find the Victorian Grade II listed cast-iron Mumbles Pier.

Local Beaches
Caswell Bay and Langland Bay are both nearby. They are beautiful beaches and popular areas for surfing, and from both of these bays you have access to other parts of the coastal path to beach and seaside walks, plus many other beautiful beaches. The Langland Brasserie has wonderful views over Langland Bay and is a lovely place to stop for coffee, lunch or dinner.

If you are looking to travel a little further, there are over twenty beaches to explore in Gower- some with sand stretching as far as the eye can see, others consisting of sand dunes, nature reserves and secluded coves, hidden amongst limestone cliffs. Local favourites include...

Rhossili Bay (which lies at the western end of Gower) has three miles of golden sands, with incredible views of Worms Head and Rhossili Down, and is supported by the National Trust. This is a great place to walk. The Welsh Coastal Path is surrounded by walking paths and historic sites. Parking is free if you are a National Trust member, or if not, the £5 parking fee is a useful contribution towards the maintenance of this beautiful location.

Oxwich Bay on the south Gower coast has a stunning, long, gently sloping beach, that is perfect for a family picnic and paddling in the sea. It is a popular beach and further along than some of the others, so an early morning or early evening trip can be ideal. Parking is chargable.

West Cross
If you walk from Lapis House in the opposite direction, towards Swansea, in a few minutes you can find the West Cross Inn, with their beer gardens situated on the promenade and facing the sea.

Blackpill
A leisurely 15-minute walk further along the flat footpath, you can find the Woodman Pub, Clyne Gardens, the Junction Café alongside Blackpill Lido and Clyne Valley Country Park. From here you can enjoy a purpose-built walking and cycling route through beautiful woodland, until you come to the Railway Inn at Killay.

Blackpill also has a skate park and footgolf.

Further Afield
Swansea has a large city shopping centre with ample parking nearby plus a number of out-of-town retail parks.

Dylan Thomas’s birthplace is nearby at 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, Swansea SA3 0RA. It is worth visiting and enthusiastic hosts will show you around.
TIP: Booking in advance can get you a better price.

Cwmdonkin Park is a brief walk away with a play area and café.

Further away again is Laugharne Boathouse which has been left just as Dylan Thomas last visited it, with his writing desk and personal belongings in situ. Laugharne is a lovely place with cafes, pubs and is near Llansteffan Castle and its beach. The Boathouse is where Dylan Thomas spent his last four years with his family and is a very popular attraction.
TIP: Please contact the boathouse in advance to see if it is open when you would like to visit.

Shopping
There are ample opportunities for retail therapy whilst on holiday. Mumbles Village has a variety of boutiques plus shops selling more day-to-day items, and also has some interesting galleries, gift shops and award-winning hair salons. There are also supermarkets and a post office.

TIP: If you walk to Mumbles, when you see the mini roundabout, you can head up Newton Road to see the shops and Oystermouth Castle, or continue along the footpath to see other shops, bars and restaurants.

TIP: If you do not want to do your own laundry, dry cleaning and laundry is available at Baywash within walking distance or a short drive on the Mumbles Road with easy parking outside.

TIP: Car servicing is available nearby.

Places to eat and drink
There are several wonderful places to eat and drink nearby.
Opposite our house is Ripples ice cream parlour. There is a seating area with great views of the beach outside and a community garden facing our house and the sea.

A few minutes’ walk along the promenade in Mumbles village is Joe’s Ice-cream Parlour (whose vanilla ice cream is considered the best for miles around).
TIP: Try it!

Verdi’s Coffee Shop is also nearby and is the perfect place to stop and watch the world go by. They also offer meals.
TIP: If Verdi’s is busy it is worth travelling to Limeslade, the next bay along and trying Castellamare’s coffee shop and restaurant.

The Pilot, a privately owned traditional pub, with its own micro-brewery on site in the back of the pub. The Pilot is one of the last traditional freehold pubs in the area.
TIP: Jo runs the Pilot and Richard makes the beer on site at the back. It is worth asking which of the his beers are available before your order.

Castellamare, is one of our favourite restaurants. An exceptional restaurant situated at Limeslade/Bracelet Bay with stunning views overlooking the coastline. It is about a two mile walk from Lapis House, but if you feel that is too far for you, it will take about six minutes by taxi.
TIP: Castellamare is a family-owned Italian restaurant. It is extremely popular with locals. Book ahead and try the pasta dishes - many of which are based on traditional Italian family recipes.

If you walk in the opposite direction, towards Swansea, in a few minutes you can find West Cross Inn, with their beer gardens situated on the promenade.

A leisurely 15-minute walk further along the flat footpath you can find the Woodman Pub, Clyne Gardens, the Junction Café alongside Blackpill Lido and Clyne Valley Country Park. From here you can enjoy a purpose-built walking and cycling route through beautiful woodland, until you come to the Railway Inn at Killay.

TIP: Book Ahead - Many of these attractions are popular, particularly in the summer months. Whilst most, if not all will try to accommodate you, we would recommend that you book ahead, particularly during lockdown when some of these facilities may be closed or have limited availability.

Activities
If you like being active, we are also very happy to make introductions to local instructors and one-to-one and group activities.

I have travelled extensively in my professional career, in a personal capacity and with my family. As property owners and landlords Siwan and I always respect the places that we stay in and our neighbours and treat guests as we would like to be treated ourselves. We look for somewhere in a great location, quiet and comfortable to come back to, where we can relax and have a good night's sleep. Sea views are always appreciated.
