De ruimte
You could be at your grandmother's house in the 1950's with the angled ceilings, claw leg bathtub, and retro kitchen; you could be in the country, yet you are in the center of the city. This gem of an apartment is an anomaly in this neighborhood which consists predominantly of duplexes and triplexes. Originally intended for the newlyweds in the family to move into when it was built in 1946, we have rented it out in a variety of ways since 2008. As it is furnished, we have had many people and families new to the city come here to transition, as well as foreign students for a semester or two, and of course we also do Airbnb! An interesting story about this apartment is that the now elderly daughter of the original owner who built it, passed by with her husband shortly after we bought it, & it was her that told me that the apartment was intended as a Newlywed suite - it would be the apartment the children were to move into after they got married...

Toegang voor gasten
Full use of yard, garden herbs & pool in summer, as well as outside BBQ ( both gas, & charcoal ), fire pit, year round. Private entry via back stairway of house to back door on private balcony. Smoking is allowed on the balcony, but not inside the apartment.

Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
Please note that shower head height is 5' 2" from bottom of tub to shower head due to the angled side wall. You can angle the universal shower head. Nobody has ever complained about this, but I thought it would be wise to give the specs for tall people to take into consideration. Original 1940s claw leg tub size is 4'6" L x 26" W.

For bus and Metro information i.e. all public transit visit the STM site online - www.stm.info/en/info/ad, & also read notes under the category "Getting Around" below in this ad.

If you have a car and are parking on the street, it is free, but check the signs: In the winter, there is snow removal when needed after accumulation, and they put the signs out up until 7 pm if they will remove it between 7 pm & 7 am on the same day. It can also happen between 7 am & 7 pm, but usually it is at night. You must move your car to the side of the street with no signs! This can occur anytime after it snows and there is accumulation!
If you do not respect the signs you can be towed (around $100 or more). They do drive around just before the snow removal and make a loud siren type noise for all the people to hear that did not move their cars because they forgot or didn't see the signs and this gives them a last chance to move their car quickly before being towed. Year round you cannot park within 1.5 meters of a fire hydrant, and there is one right across the street from the apartment. From April 1st until December 1st, there is street cleaning between 9:30 am to 10:30 am every Monday on our side of the street, & Tuesdays 9:30 am to 10:30 am on the other side of the street. We usually park our car on the safe side of the street the night before street cleaning if we are not planning to leave before 9:30 am the following morning for those days, as it can sometimes be difficult to find parking right before those cleaning times. The ticket is around $52. For public transit, see the section below called "Getting Around".

Montréal, Québec, Canada

Centrally located in the city, Parc extension is one of the most multicultural neighborhoods in Canada and it always has been, although now it is in a state of transition.
Developed in 1910, it has been for the most part an immigrant neighborhood with more than 20 languages commonly spoken, but over the last several years it has gone into transition for several reasons. As Downtown and The Plateau become more expensive, previously industrial areas such as ones with old garment factory buildings have now become thriving artistic neighborhoods such as Mile End, and Mile Ex (see September /October issue of IDEAT magazine). Major corporations have moved some of their headquarters here, resulting in a lot of these older large buildings to be con converted to condos to accommodate their employees. In addition, the soon-to-be-completed Universite de Montreal campus, which will bridge the neighborhood of Outremont with Parc Extension, has attracted many more young French people.
Parc extension hosts a very large city park "Jarry", which borders to the South - Little Italy and the public market, to the East, is Boulevard Saint Laurent (also known as 'The Main' because it divides East from West, and in effect, also French from English - to varying degrees the farther you go). Villeray is to the east of Jarry Park so it is largely French.

In Parc Extension there are many inexpensive Greek and Indian grocery shops and restaurants. It is a destination point for many Montrealers all over for these kinds of foods. There is also a Provigo nearby at the Parc Metro. Jarry Park has both indoor and outdoor public pools which are free, and it is home to the Uniprix Stadium, which hosts the Rogers World Cup tennis competitions every August; therefore there are indoor and outdoor courts but you must reserve and pay for these. There are bixi bikes in the neighborhood for rental and drop off anywhere in the city. There are not many hills at all so it is a great way to get around, as Montreal has set up a great network of designated bicycle paths. On the other side of the highway 40 which is a 1 minute drive North, there is Marche Central which has Guzzo multiplex cinemas, & lots of big box stores such as Canadian tire, Costco, Winners, etc. Plus there is a shopping mall called Rockland Center which is walking distance. They now allow dogs on a leash at this mall!.

Originally a clothing designer by trade, I moved to Montreal from Vancouver, in 1994 to work at Guess jeans. After meeting my husband (and Airbnb co-host) Andy, my time was taken over by children, houses, and rentals - in that order. I plan to get back into designing again in the near future and start my own business, now that my children are growing up. We live on the main floor of the house with our 18 year old son and 14 year old daughter (Website hidden by Airbnb) The Airbnb attic apartment on the second floor of this 1946 house is a real gem. It has a private entrance via stairs at the back to the apartment balcony entry. I love it, and I am not alone. Over the past 11 years we have rented it out for various lengths of time, often to foreign students, families moving from other cities or countries who are in transition, people temporarily living in Montreal for business, or sometimes we reserve it friends or family. And sometimes - like now, for Airbnb! For an fascinating tidbit about the apartment, as to why it was originally called the 'Honeymoon Suite' when it was built in 1946, read more in the Description section, under "The Space".

Guests can let themselves in, and text, call, or email me when they arrive. If they like, we can meet at their convenience, we are living on the main floor of the house.
It is helpful for cleaning reasons, if guests text or email to advise once they have checked out. We do not want to disturb guests' privacy, and just enter to clean if someone is there.
