You'll love the gorgeous Frying Pan Valley and the sound of the river from our lovely mother-in-law apartment, located on the lower level of our classic Colorado A-Frame with separate entrance and plenty of privacy. 1-BR, 1-bath with murphy bed in the kitchenette.
Come experience the Roaring Fork Valley's best kept secret! Located just 24 miles north of Aspen, near the quaint streets of historic downtown Basalt is the Frying Pan valley, where the famed gold medal waters of the Frying Pan River meander through dramatic red rock spires and steep mountain hillsides.
This cozy 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment features a decent size bedroom/living area with queen size bed and large sofa with a queen size sleeper bed. The second room is a kitchenette with a super comfortable Murphy bed for extra guests. The bathroom has a bathtub and shower and is stocked with basic necessities in case you forgot something. We provide a ton of clean linens and towels. Enjoy a large private deck with gas grill surrounded by the steep forested hillside and lush terraced gardens that provide peace and privacy. Wi-fi, cable TV, and furnished kitchenette provide all the comforts of home. We live upstairs with our pug and 1 year old son, so you may hear us walking around, but there is no door connecting the two units and the lower level is very private.
Our classic Colorado A-Frame home is located five miles from downtown Basalt across the street from the Frying Pan River. Behind the house are the magical Seven Castles, a series of dramatic red rock spires that tower over the valley. Access the 7 Castles hike and climb a series of waterfalls from our back door. Located just one mile from a big horn sheep refuge, wildlife outnumbers humans in this quiet little mountainside hamlet.
Up valley you'll discover an endless outdoor playground, beginning with the shores of Reudi Reservoir popular for boating, fishing, camping, paddle boarding, and picnicking on the scenic beaches. From there, continue on to Chapman Reservoir where motorized boats aren't allowed--ideal for kayaks and canoes. Easy access to White River National Forest and surrounding wilderness provides infinite possibilities for hiking, hunting, snow mobiling, cross country skiing and more.
Discover Colorado's authentic side in Basalt, where the quaint downtown street is packed with shopping and dining that rivals what you might find in Aspen for a fraction of the price. From our location, you can have the best of both worlds with easy access to remote wilderness and all the amenities Basalt has to offer. Buses to Aspen run every 20 minutes from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. from downtown Basalt.
Enjoy a true Colorado getaway with all the amenities of Aspen at a fraction of the price. Ask us about fishing guide services that can grant you access to the private waters of Seven Castles Bend, located right across the street. We are happy to provide any information or guidance you need to plan your stay.
We look forward to having you at the Margo A-Frame!

A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
We are in a rural location. There is no public transportation. We are five miles from town and the closest bus stop. We are 35 minutes from Aspen, 25 minutes from Snowmass, and 25 minutes from Carbondale and 35 minutes from Glenwood--a great central valley location in a gorgeous setting.
Cell Phone Reception is Limited
We live in a very remote area, between a steep mountain and red rock spires, so the cell phone reception isn't great. We typically get one bar and can send and receive texts, but calls get dropped. We do have a cordless phone and a landline for guests who want it.
Satellite Internet isn't perfect
We do have wireless and it is high speed but it isn't 100% reliable. Weather, technical issues and limited IP addresses do interfere with connectivity. If you are here on business and have to depend on being online, this might not be the place for you. We also have limited data that does not support streaming movies, music or video chat.If you are someone who just needs to check your email and browse the web once and a while, you should be fine.
4WD Recommended in Winter
We live on a dirt road that can get tricky after winter snow storms and is not maintained by the city. Four wheel drive is a must to get up to our house which is at the top of a steep grade. In summer, any vehicle is fine.
We have a lot of stairs
The apartment is on the lower level. There are 16 steps to get to the main house and 10 more to get to the apartment. If you are traveling with elderly, disabled or otherwise physically challenged people, this might not be appropriate for you.
We are dog friendly.
For most people, this is a good thing! WE DO ALLOW (and love) DOGS! Children are fine, too :) We have a 15-pound pug named Gertie. She thinks she is a badass, but she it utterly defenseless and will do just about anything for a treat.
We are kid friendly!
We have a young son and welcome your kids. The apartment is a great option for families who want privacy and a place where their kids can be kids.

Guests are always welcome to knock on our door, text us or call us if they need anything at all. We are happy to accommodate you and appreciate the opportunity to address any issues or problems you might have during your stay. We also respect your privacy, so don't feel obligated--just know we are here if you need us.
Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
The apartment is on the lower level of our home. While it is very private and there is no door connecting the two units, the apartment is attached to our home and we do live above the apartment with our pug and young son and you may be able to hear us moving about upstairs when we are home. That also means that after our kid goes to bed, we are very quiet in the evenings.
We are very easy going and the apartment is very private, so we don't ask much of our guests other than the obvious: that you respect our property and the peace and quiet that surrounds our beautiful location. Because we are located in a rural and relatively remote area, this is not the place for you if you want to party (at least not without a designated driver).
We encourage open communication with our guests and honesty is key. Have an unexpected guest? Decided to bring your dog at the last minute? Thinking of having some fishing buddies over for a BBQ? Just let us know and more likely than not, we'll offer to help.

QUIET HOURS after 10 p.m.
We are longtime residents of the Roaring Fork Valley and live upstairs with our toddler Levi and our pug, Gertie. We bought this home after living in Aspen for over a decade because we loved it's beautiful rural location that is still only five miles from downtown Basalt. We rent out the guest apartment and love to host guests in this beautiful river valley that is a little off the beaten path and many visitors to the Roaring Fork Valley never get to see. The Seven Castles above our house is a magical and mystical place. We welcome families with children, especially if they have four legs.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have created a mountain lifestyle that allows us to indulge in all the activities we enjoy on a regular basis including hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, and hunting (that would be Ryan). Ali is also a certified Bikram yoga teacher and enjoys a regular yoga practice at Vimana House in Basalt.
We moved to the Frying Pan valley in June 2012 and are in constant awe of the discoveries this valley has to offer to us every day: the deer that casually inhabit our yard, the big horn sheep who often run along the side of Frying Pan road, the giant eagle we thought was a statue when we first saw it, the massively huge trout that can be fished from the river across the street from our house, and the miles and miles of hiking in wilderness where you are likely not to see a single other person. Some of our other neighbors include wild turkeys, black bears and the occasional but revered mountain lion.
We also still love our Aspen lifestyle and the short drive to get there makes it a perfect balance to be close to our beloved ski resorts and all of our friends and social life up valley but to be able to come home to total privacy, peace, and beauty at our little a-frame.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you during your stay.
