The Sorya Homestay in Tropang Sdock is the ideal way to experience the Cambodian countryside from a local perspective and to meet fantastic people

De ruimte

Sorya Homestay is a lovely and welcoming place for anyone who wants to experience the beauty and peace of our Cambodian countryside. Located in Takeo Province, about 62 km south of Phnom Penh we are located in Tropang Sdock close to the famous Phnom Chisor tempel mountain.
Our Homestay is a unique place on the first floor of a traditional Khmer wooden house situated on the premises of the Sorya NGO. You can sit and relax under our mango tree or comfortably swing in the hammock on the balcony in front of your simple but comfortable room. You will sleep in a double bed with a moskito net and a fan for your comfort.

Our minimum stay is 2 nights.
UDS 17 per person / night include:
Food USD 6 (three meals per day, vegan/vegetarian options available)
Bike rental USD 1 per person / day
Transportation USD 5 (return journey Phrasat Neang Kmoa to Tropang Sdock)

As our village is very remote, we recommend spending at least two nights in the Homestay in order to fully benefit from your stay. Our guide Sitha will show you around in the area (for USD 5 per place) which offers a lot to discover such as the holy lake, the temple mountain, our village life and celebrations etc. Moreover, you will meet local people and the volunteers working as teachers in our Sorya school for children. You can get involved and mingle in or just find your ways in privacy by foot or by bike.

We are sure that you will have an unforgettable experience at Sorya Homestay, far from the hustle of Phnom Penh or on your way south to popular destinations such as Kampot, Kep or Sihanoukville. By the way, your payments will be used for additional funding of Sorya Cambodian Development Organisation.

Please contact Sitha to answer any further questions you might have.

We look forward to welcoming you!

In our wooden (!) Khmer house, smoking is obviously not allowed in the whole 1st. floor where your room is located. But you can smoke anywhere else - sitting under the mango-tree, on the open staircase or in the garden - as long as there are no school-children around (;-).
We are nestled in the countryside in a traditional village where people go to bed early. Means we are not exactly a party location. So please just adapt to your surroundings. And: absolutely no drugs!

Attractions of this place is not only the accomodation but also precious experiences in rural village. As some visitors mentioned, this is the best place to have unique and unforgettable experiences in Cambodia. The room on 2nd floor is really simple with a fluorescent light, electric fan, king sized bed with a mosquit net. When you want to take a shower, go down the stairs and dip up water in the shower room. The neighborhood Mr.& Mrs. Ban bring you each meals which uses thir own growed vegetables. That meals are also simple but tasty. You can also enjoy conversations with them. Next to the accomodation, there is a small building with 2classrooms for teaching english for children. Sometimes you can have a chance to see them learning in the class, or playing with them after class. Walking around Tropang Sdok village is also fun. Sreyleak and her friend kindly took me to walking. You can see traditional Cambodian rural life and scenes there. While your staying, Sreyleak (and some english teachers or the members of Sorya NGO) take care of you. Mr. Groem, who is a fluent english teacher, took me to the famous khmer site; Phnom Chisor. It was a wonderful view! Generously, I recommend this place so deeply. Worth planning just visit there. Who else can find such a fantastic place and attractive staying except there!

Sitha was very efficient to answer my question in advance and organized a pick-up from the bus station where one of the volunteers picked me up. The 2 volunteers I met do a GREAT job :)! The place is very charming with basic accomodation. The bed is comfortable with beautiful bed linen and of course a mosquitoes net and a fan. No worries, the fan is efficient enough at night time :)! The food is very good and the cook made always shure I was well fed :)! You get to sleep in a house, surrounded by farmlands and rice fields that are accessible by just a few minutes walk away. You can also swim in the lake, hiking, biking, have a chat at one of the shops with the locals, visit the ruins. Yes, It was a great experience - I had an amazing time. Important: bring suncream with you! Water, Coke etc. Snacks is no problem, you can buy it everywhere in the little shops :)! Good to know: Sorya Foundation runs their own silk weaving. They produce beautiful neckerchief - high quality with own natural color of the environment. The perfect gift for friends and family :). I stayed for 4 nights and I didn't want to leave. The staff, the teachers, the volunteers , the students and the people living in the small village are very friendly. I can really recommend this place, and I would love to come back if I ever go to Cambodia again.

I spent 3 days of peace here. Unplug, bring a book, listen to the orchestral richness of rural life. I learned a lot from conversations with the young teachers and am convinced that this community school is giving rural folk a definitive advantage in their lives. Nga is 17, teaches an ABC class of 40 ranging in ages from what looks like 4 to 17. As easily imagined, he said it was hard to keep control of the class. I introduced momosign ((URL HIDDEN) to him and he learned the alphabet and several lessons in one setting. We tried it with his class the following day to great success. The children looked like they'd been plugged in. I passed on all the video lessons so I hope you can see it in action if you visit.

Warm welcome, nice room. Most of the money goes to very important development for the village (schools). You'll be able to visit lost ruins in the middle of nowhere and feel like indiana Jones.

A Unique experience in the country side. We were booked in during the Cambodian holiday period. Sitha was kind enough to arrange to be there for us along with the cook. We had use of bicycles and were able to bike ride through the rice paddies and countryside, We rode up to the mountain and were able to see the temple on the hill and watch the sunset. The local people were friendly and full of smiles. The accommodation is as described and as in the photographs. There is a fan and it does cool down somewhat overnight, This was a great experience and We would recommend it for anyone. Don't expect hot water all the usual amenities, The toilet is Western and porcelain however if you use a ladle to flush, The wash area is a bath tub style tiled tank, Against you ladle out the water and pour it over with your self to wash, This is an authentic homestay in the country and I would have been disappointed if Western facilities were provided, Thank you again Sitha and everybody who made us feel welcome.

I am Sitha, a 23-year old Cambodian student of tourism at the University of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.

With my Sorya Homestay project, I support the Sorya NGO for Education and Development for which I work as well as an english teacher for children.
I am looking forward to welcoming you and make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
