We have set this listing up in order to provide a beautiful and tranquil place to practice Social Distancing, Self Isolation or Quarantine. We offer a special rate with additional services for anyone needing to Quarantine. We ourselves are in the high risk group so we appreciate the need to be cautious. After each reservation there is a minimum 24 hr. space of time before another guest is received. During that time we air out the space and wipe down all surfaces with a sanitizer.
The bathroom that the guests use is for there exclusive use and it is aired out (it has lots of ventilation) and all surfaces including sinks, toilet, bathtub, window sills, door knobs, doors and walls and the floor is bleached.
Guests have their own private entrance to the bathroom through the mud room and a curtain separates the mud room from the rest of the house. Hand sanitizer is provided in the guests cabin and Lysol disinfecting wipes are available for guests to use.
Please read the full description to make sure that this listing suits your needs. This is not for everyone but for most people it is an extremely enjoyable experience. We are literally on the edge of the wilderness although quite accessible. This is a rustic farm. There is nothing fancy here. We work on this farm and have helpers and guests and local customers coming and going. The hut is set apart from the main activity at the farm.
This is a great way to experience laid back country living in a small Canadian community. It is not a luxurious ski chalet :-) Most people love it here and many have called it their best Airbnb experience ever, but if you are a person that believes, "There is a place for everything and everything has a place", you might not find it to your liking. :)
The hut It is well insulated and finished in solid pine. In the main level downstairs is a small living/sitting area and in the loft is a queen size mattress accessible via a ladder and 2x2’ hatch, so a certain amount of agility is necessary. There is electric heat and power and wifi access in the hut. The small partially enclosed deck overlooks the garden and farm and from the front of the hut there are views of Kawkawa Lake and Hope Mountain. There is a small charcoal BBQ on the deck as well as a two burner camp stove and essential kitchen accoutrements. We provide a cooler for use at the hut but you would need to bring ice packs. We have free range eggs from our chickens and our fresh organic produce and jams that guests can purchase in season. The full bathroom is in the main house about 30 meters down the hill. The bathroom is exclusively for the use of our guests at Valhalla. We provide linen, pillows, towels, body wash, shampoo and conditioner one canister of propane and one pot of charcoal which should be more than enough for the first two days and we provide additional fuel for longer stays. There is a small fan in the hut.

Deer Park Haven Farm is an 11+ acre farm and forest. It is totally private. We have a trail through our private forest that offers spectacular views of Ogilvie, MacCleod, and Hope Mountains as well as the Cascade range. There are a number of beautiful hiking trails and walks just out of your door. Hope has historically been the 'Trails Crossing' from the First Nations to the Hudson Bay Fur Traders to Contemporary Canada, all roads have led to Hope.
There are also an abundance of lakes and rivers, such as Kawkawa Lake which is located a short drive from our property. We have canoes, kayaks and mountain bikes available for rent, provided by Sasquatch Moon Outdoors at reasonable rates. If you would like to arrange to use recreational gear please advise us in advance.

Toegang voor gasten
Guests have private use of the Valhalla hut and access to their own private toilet facilities and bath/shower in the main log farmhouse. I usually have time to and am happy to give tours of the gardens and helpful hints about sustainable organic farming.

Andere dingen waar je op moet letten
Getting to/from Valhalla involves a short hike on a dirt trail with an incline, and accessing the sleeping area requires climbing a short indoor ladder.

Our property is a working farm with ducks and chickens (no roosters). Indoors in the main log cabin house, we have 2 friendly cats.

Hope, British Columbia, Canada

Hope is about 60 minutes from Manning Park ski area and the same distance from Hemlock Valley. Falls lake and the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area is about 30 minutes away and is a beautiful place to hike in summer or snowshoe or backcountry ski in the winter.

There are endless trails and hikes in the vicinity of Hope. We have a great outdoor store, Hope Outdoors, that can provide you with anything you need for an adventure in the great Canadian outdoors.

The town of Hope is about 4 km from the farm. We have an awesome bookstore, Baker's Books, almost worth the trip to Hope by itself. All used books are $2.00 each except for their fine selection of collectables.

Hope also boasts one of the finest and best preserved cinemas, from the 50's, in the lower mainland. Though it is charming and antique in it's decor it also has digital picture and sound.

The Blue Moose, our favourite coffee shop, is a gathering place for both locals and visitors and the people of Hope love to mingle and give suggestions and tell stories. Just be careful, you might end up at the table chatting the day away with one of our many colourful characters.

I have been called eccentric before, I would at least go along with eclectic. Although I have all of the modern conveniences now, I have lived about 11 years of my life without electricity or any of the trappings. I am 68 and I don't think that I have had a television for even 1/4 of my life. I have not had one now for about 8 years. I am not a Luddite though. I program websites, in my spare time, developing php/mysql interfaces. I love to read and I have an extensive library of work from psychology to mythology, philosophy, history, economics and lots of reference material on farming and wilderness survival. I think that the reviews about the food here speak for themselves. I have spent many years in the hospitality and/or grocery industries. I am now homesteading a small acreage outside of a quiet town in southwestern BC. I have been clearing, levelling land and building a raised garden on top of rock for the past 6 years in order to develop an organic mountain farm. We've had nearly everything go wrong that could go wrong from 2 of the worst droughts in history to the worst winter in 35 years, record rainfalls in the autumn and then 8 months incapacitated from a lung infection. In spite of all of that though, we have made steady progress. We have just received our official status from the assessment board as a farm. We started keeping poultry for eggs this year and that has been good. A bigger problem than either weather or illness, in the past, has been finding a way to market our produce. I seem to be the first person in the community to attempt this type of small scale bio-diverse farming targeting just the local market. We have had no farmers' market. This year though, with the egg sales, I learned that the scourge of social media is good for something. We have been using social media to get the word out in the community and the response has been great. The community is beginning to grow and there is a recognition of the value of small scale local agriculture. An Agricultural Advisory Committee was just formed to help in designing a strategy to attract and encourage people to reclaim fallow agricultural land in the district. There are lots of positive changes in the air and these are likely to have a positive effect on our farming venture. We have had I have had 120 young people from 21 countries on 4 continents stay with us over the past 3 years as a part of a volunteer program and our reviews there are awesome. One of my fellows said, though tongue in cheek, "Make no mistake, this place is not normal." although he said there was no place that he would rather have stayed. I think you will probably feel the same way if you come and stay here. :) Oh, it says to tell you 5 things that I can't live without. Let's see, clean air, good water, healthy fresh food, good books, my wife and cats. I think probably my favourite novel would be "How Green Is My Valley" by Richard Llewelyn. My favourite poet, Robbie Burns, of course! I think "The Dragons of Eden" by Carl Sagan and "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav should be required reading. I guess I'm what you would call a 'history buff' and I consume historical fiction and biographies. As for movies, I prefer foreign films, "Jean de Florette" and "Manon de la Source" taken as one movie is probably my favourite, if I had to pick one although I love Akira Kurosawa's stuff and Yang Zhimou. Music, my tastes run from Eminem to Wagner. Hip hop, pop, rock, metal, folk, but opera is the ultimate. Good music is good music, whatever the genre. My favourite food must be Italian and I make fantastic (note the modesty;)) authentic Italian dishes. I love Mexican food, but a good pork roast with sauerkraut is always welcome to my kitchen table. ;) My motto is: Don't do anything unless you have to, don't do today what you can put off till tomorrow, and be excellent to yourself.
