The Cafe Du Monde in the Quarter is definitely a better tourist experience, I'd recommend that one if you're close by. This locations is really close to the house, and they even have a drive through. It's great for days that you're not venturing into New Orleans.

About a mile walk from the house. There's a 2 mile track for a walk or run, multiple playgrounds for the kids, a carousel, a snack booth, and plenty of picnic tables. They have live music on Thursday nights during the summer, and a farmer's market on Wednesday evenings.

City park is a great place to be outdoors in New Orleans. There are peddle boats you can ride around the lake, a playground area for kids, a small amusement part, a botanical garden, and plenty of beautiful Oak trees to sit under.

If you're a fan of Walmart, this is the closest one to my house. They have everything you need, but they typically stay crowded with long lines. I try to stay away and go to Target if possible.
