Arts & Culture

Of course you know that on this spot there is the famous Oktoberfest once a year. You might not know that during the rest of year Theresienwiese hosts various cultural events, festivals, circus, the biggest flea market of Munich and amusement parks. When there is no event happening it is an amazing place to be outside of the city right within the city. People use it for kite-skating and other sports and there is a nice beergarden in the park next to the big statue where you can taste the all bavarian cousine.

The best way to get to know Munich is by bike. Similar to other cities (like Paris), Munich offers a bike rental system. You can rent a bike for 8 Cent per minute and when you drop it at one of the stations you get bonus minutes.

Parks & Nature

Yes, there are beaches in Munich. There are places where usually families go (where the river is shallow), areas for the young folk, surfers, even a nudist island. Anyways, when the weather's fine, make sure you spend some time at Munich's lifeline.

Westpark is a huge park just in just five minutes walking distance from our door. If you enjoy jogging that's the place to go (there's a 'secret' path in the woods, which gives you a little more exercise, all around the park). When it's nice, people have barbecue there and let their remote controlled sailing boats swim.

Bakerie/café 1 out of 3 right outside our house. This one is nice on sunny days. It is just across the street and has very good bread & cake.

Bakerie/café 2 out of 3 right outside our house. The coffee lounge and bakery also offers an easy lunch. I don't know what it tastes like, since we live in the same building and usually eat at home :) But the people are really nice and if you get up or come back around 7am you can get warm croissant and brezen.

At the Hopfengarten (Hofpen is used to brew beer) you can experience the real beer garden culture of Bavaria, which means that you can actually bring your own food to eat there, but also get some classical Bavarian dish from their buffet. To bring drinks is not allowed though, they must be bought there. Saturdays there's also a flea market there. Open from 10am-11pm.
