Edinburgh Castle sits prominently above Edinburgh City and is easily accessible. There is an entry ticket, but if you there over St Andrews weekend (30 Oct - 1 Nov) you can often get free entry if you pre-book, subject to availability.

There are not many cities where you can climb a mountain in the city! Really enjoyable on a good day, but the air is fresh on any day.
