This national monument is named for Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, leader of the first European expedition to explore in 1542 what is now the West Coast of the United States. Take a hike along the coast, have a picnic, or visit the Old Point Loma Lighthouse which lit the way for sailors entering San Diego Bay from 1855 to 1891. Today, visitors get a glimpse of life in the 1800s through period furnishings and lighthouse tools on display.

Children’s beach was created when a concrete breakaway was constructed in 1931. Over time, the beach has been taken over by seals and their pups! Enjoy watching them sum on the beach and swim in the cove! You can walk out on the breakaway to get an even better view.
