Starlight Cabin is located in the lower district of the Buffalo River. The Buffalo River was America's first national designated river.
These pictures are of the Buffalo National River trail in the lower district. This trailhead on Spring Creek is about 3 miles from the cabin. If you head north on the trail, it's about a 6-mile hike to the Highway 14 Bridge (Dillard's Ferry). You can also start this trail at Dillard's Ferry and walk towards Spring Creek. The views of the river are spectacular! If you're not up for the whole hike (it would be 12 miles if you don't have a second vehicle parked at the other end), walk as far as you like and then turn around. Consider a ghost town, Rush was a mining boomtown when zinc ore was discovered there in the 1880s. Nice hike around historic ruins dating from 1880-1940.

We've also seen eagles flying over the lake on several visits. Access is free except for the caverns. Gorgeous area and the 45-minute drive is beautiful, as well. Hunter's Restaurant is in Fifty-Six, which is nearby. There is also Fifty Six Country Store for snacks and other convenience items. Be sure to check with all businesses for dates and times open.
