Refined, delicate menu changing every now and then. Friendly atmosphere. My fav place for any occasion. The building inside has been renovated by maintaining the original charm. Pizza and calzone are also delicious!

Sightseeing

From this charmingly old-fashioned café, you can enjoy a breathtaking view on lago Ceresio as to say the lake between Porlezza in Italy and Lugano in Switzerland. Also you will be basically seeing the city centre of Lugano just comfortably sitting at Buffa with your aperol spritz in your hands. They’re very generous in portions, so, as soon as you’ll get an aperitivo, it will be accompanied by little sandwiches, chips and local charcuterie.

Transport around the lake Como area

To move along and around the lake, I would suggest mainly ferry boat if you’re not in a hurry. It’s the best way to enjoy the fairy landscape.

Think Being Comfy

As a local, I wouldn’t suggest wearing high heels over here at all! Comfortable sneakers or comfy ankle boots will be the best choice your feet will thank you for! During warm spring days and summer, comfy sandals can also do their job :)

The lake is calm, only in the surface.

Lake Como is the deepest lake in Italy and it reaches a depth of 410mt. Since constant exchanges of differently tempered water streams, there is a phenomenon called “mulinelli” which consists of a vortex mainly. Unfortunately due to their impetuous power and imperceptible presence, mulinelli are able to suck in a person who quietly swims just in the very surface of water. If I were to be a wise person, I would never let kids swim without being supervised by an adult or without any rescue/floating devices. Be extra careful and swim only on shore, where you touch the lake bed with your feet.

Where to buy transport tickets

You can find BUS tickets mainly at newsstands in the downtown of any city in Italy. For FERRY tickets, you’ll have to buy them either at the imbarcadero office of the ferry stop where you are, either if you did not have time immediately as you get on board. TRAIN tickets can be bought inside train stations either at the ticket desk, ticket machine or the tobacco/mini market licensed shop inside the station (ask them first, to be sure). In Italy generally you can’t purchase train, bus, tram tickets when you’re already on board. Always validate train tickets in the yellow machines!

Greetings manners

CIAO is very informal and you can use it either when you unexpectedly encounter someone you know and both when you say goodbye — even after a long day with a friend. BUONGIORNO/SALVE is mainly formal when addressing to people you don’t know — either you know — and are older than you. BUONASERA / good evening. BUONANOTTE / general for good night. NOTTE / informal abbreviation for good night with someone you are very close to. SÍ for yes. NO for nope. NON (followed by a verb) for NOT. And CERTO/CERTAMENTE for sure/surely. NON SE NE PARLA for absolutely not.
