For an authentic Bajan experience, Oistin's Friday Night Fish Fry is a terrific kick off to the weekend OR a great way to end your week! According to Totally Barbados.com, "It’s a ‘must visit‘ during your stay in Barbados. From around 6 pm onwards, locals and visitors alike come together in Oistins to enjoy some of the freshly cooked fish, sample the local rum and enjoy the party vibes and music. There are shacks lined up next to the fish market selling newly grilled fish, salad, and the traditional Bajan dish of macaroni pie, amongst other things. Oistins is a no-frills experience, but one bound to leave a lasting impression. Seating is on picnic benches dotted around the car park, entertainment is free, and the food is cheap – around BBD 25 per plate. " Fresh fish, music, karaoke and Bajan crafts/trinkets await you.

Can't wait 'til Oistin's Fish Fry on Friday? Then DEFINITELY check out Martin's Bay, St. John on Thursdays. It's about 15 minutes from HOME and secretbarbados.com says: "The Thursday afternoon lime (a lime is time spent relaxing with others) at Martin’s Bay, St John, has got it all. There’s seafood, music and plenty of atmosphere in this secluded east coast village. The Bay Tavern, which overlooks the beach, is where Bajans bring their family and friends from overseas to enjoy the laid back vibe." So very true.

Sightseeing

Ocean Echo Stables is about a 10 minute ride from HOME. The owner is very personable, the horses are well cared for (you can help brush them down at the end of the ride) and the riding through Bath, St. John is beautiful. The guides are friendly (I actually picked bay leaf and used it in my cooking).

I tour the Cave so often, I named my poodle Harrison. Tripadvisor says: " At the heart of Barbados lies one of its greatest wonders – the magnificent Harrison’s Cave. Located in the central uplands of the island, this crystallized, limestone cave is characterized by flowing streams, deep pools of crystal clear water and towering columns." Combine the tour with a late lunch at nearby Open Kitchen.
