Close to Blue Star, close to Salt and Straw Ice Cream, Close to Cinema 21, close to The Meadow (chocolate and salt) Reservations needed for dinner but can generally get into the bar early for HH. if they have the Maurice Chevalier on the menu it is a very tasty cocktail. You can take the NS streetcar to 23rd and walk to Raleigh (6 blocks ish)

I love Imperial, another Chef Vitaly Paley restaurant. Happy Hour is 2-6 and the Kale salad is completely amazing. The sunflower candy on the top makes it such a treat. You'll laugh. You'll cry. It will become a part of you. The fried chicken also rocks. The burgers are also great. And the HH starts early enough you can fit it lunch, see a movie, and go to Departures for a dinner on the deck! I detest going out for breakfast because I can fry my own eggs, but Imperial breakfasts rock. Reservations are helpful but we've been fit in for lunch sometimes and dinner.

Charming Russian café. Who knew that tongue could be so delicious? Vodka flights. Propagandist art that used to be camp but might be scary these days. Off the Bloop streetcar line. Make a reservation or be prepared for a wait the length of the Russian winter.

Bean to bar dark, rich chocolate with delicious baked treats. Take the A Loop Streetcar on NW 9th and Lovejoy across the bridge to NE 2nd and walk to Creo. They have tours so check out the website.

A Moroccan inspired coffee shop with amazing service, comfortable surroundings, delicious treats and sandwiches, and just a lovely place to grab a coffee and sit or take with you to Fields Park or as you walk along the river.

This is my husband's favorite place. It's an easy commute by streetcar (BLoop). The pasta is delicious and there's a lovely outdoor patio.

Sometimes you just want a hot and delicious and reasonably priced lunch indoors and Nong's (winner of Chopped) chicken and rice is one of the best $10 lunches in town. Easy to get to by streetcar (A Loop)

This is my favorite hipster coffee shop. They make fantastic chocolate chip cookies in what looks like an Easy Bake oven. The coffee is good and the baristas are fun. It's a good place to get whole bean coffee.

Maurice is a delightful, funky, unique small restaurant that purposefully puts you in the state of mind of a Parisian café. The pace, the food selection, the decor....it's adorable. You can buy bone-in chicken pot pies to bring home for an easy dinner.

Ox is a little rich for me but the food was some of the best I've eaten in Portland, just more than I usually want to eat. Definitely worth a trek to try out. I don't think they take reservations but there's a bar where you can wait.

The cappucino bar is very good. A small but curated selection of wines. Great cheeses and specialty foods. An a chocolate aisle that could make a chocolate lover drool (they have some gateway chocolates, like Tcho, but oh, my. Try a David's Olive Oil chocolate bar.
