La Jolla Sights
Discover the wealth of sights that La Jolla has to visit from Tide Pools, Coves, Cliffs, Golf, Famous Shopping, La Jolla Shores, Scripps Institute of Oceanography's Birch Aquarium, Marine Reserves teeming with fish, seals, dolphins, and another snorkeler, if you join them.
Iconic with an interesting history. The rocks and non-frontal orientation make this small beach naturally sheltered from the waves, making it ideal for children.
In 1931, newspaper magnate and philosopher, Ellen Browning Scripps, donated the construction of a small curving seawall that made the sheltering complete for young children to play on the beach and swim in the calm waters. In the early 1990's, a couple of the seals who hung out in the nearby marine reserves and sanctuaries, notably nearby Seal Rock, started to migrate to the rocks of the Children's Pool. Over the next few years, more came over, came ashore on the beach, and started to use the beach as a safe home for birthing pups.
The local residents were concerned that the children no longer had their own beach anymore, as well as possible dangerous interactions with the seals, the males of which can reach 900 lbs. Shenanigans (to say it nicely) followed, including lawsuits between the "homies" (local residents) and the "greenies" (environmentalists), including a controversial 24/7 webcam, a too short rope for roping off, and a mayor who took sides, then had to resign following Me Too related harrassment charges, shortly after some controversial shortcuts taken.

La Jolla Cove is at the heart of Village of La Jolla right off of the landmark street for shopping, restaurants, art galleries, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Prospect St. Also, next to the La Jolla Caves, and the Children's Pool, La Jolla Cove is located in a Marine Reserve rich area, making it a great place for snorkeling and Scuba diving as many seals and fish, such as the Garibaldi, California's state fish, as well as many others.

On the south end, it is close to La Jolla Cove, and fronts a longtime iconic restaurant, the Marine Room, who famously had tables floating in 3-4 ft. of water during the high tides and storm surges from the El Nino storms in the early 80's (you can check the pictures out in the lobby ).
If you are a scuba diver, amazing Submarine Canyons, true visuals of the Continental Shelf, are like underwater Grand Canyons near the pier, and can be accessed at as little as 40' deep.

Law Street has a nice combination of families and singles, is a little less crowded than the more southern beaches, and has a nice park at the top of the ramp overlooking it. Bathrooms, rinsing showers available.

A nice place for a casual relaxing lunch that you can bring with, or buy at the aptly named Cliff Hanger Cafe. Journey to the top of a 370' sheer cliff overlooking miles of beaches below, including the infamous "Black's Beach" which, was a legal nude beach, until it was made illegal in 1977 due, in part, to its popularity (BTW. don't worry about the possibility of being a non-"G rated" view, at that distance, even the biggest exhibitionist is nondescript.
BTW again, yes, "biggest" can be interpreted in multiple ways... it's your vacation... ;-)
