Getting Around

Bringing (or renting) a car is admittedly the easiest way to get around the island, but other transportation options can be great alternatives if you couldn't score that elusive ferry reservation. Vineyard Transit Authority (vineyardtransit.com) buses are convenient and super-affordable. Uber and taxi services are available also. Renting a bicycle is also an option, with the realization that cycling comes with some risk on our busy roads. We do not recommend renting a moped due to safety risks.

Other Things to Do

Everyone comes to Martha's Vineyard for the beaches, restaurants, and shopping, but there are many other interesting places to explore on this wonderful island. Here are a few of our favorites.
Wonderful for bike-riding! This over 5,300 acre forest sits in the center of Martha's Vineyard. You'll find miles of trails, a paved bike path, and a disc golf course. At the center of the park, there's a statue honoring the last habitat for the heath hen, a type of grouse that went extinct in 1932. Hours: Sunrise to sunset Parking: Free parking is available in the lots off Barnes Road and West Tisbury Road. Biking: Ride along 14 miles of wooded and paved paths away from island traffic. Walking: Walk the bike paths for great views of the island's woodlands and wildlife. at Manuel F. Correllus State Forest No alcohol No littering No camping No fires No motorized off-road vehicles Keep on marked paths Dogs must remain on-leash, except on designated fire lanes

The Polly Hill Arboretum, a Martha’s Vineyard horticultural and botanical landmark, was developed by the legendary horticulturist, Mary Louise (Polly) Hill (1907-2007). Here in 1958, Polly began an arboretum by sowing a seed, eventually bringing 20 acres under cultivation while preserving 40 additional acres as native woodland. Established in 1998 as a not-for-profit institution, our mission is to perpetuate the experimental tradition in horticulture established by Polly Hill by sharing knowledge of plants and scientific procedure through educational programs, research, plant conservation, and exploration. The Arboretum seeks to preserve its meadows and woodlands, to promote an understanding of its collections, and to encourage their utilization for scholarship, observation, and the enjoyment of all.

Great little place in Edgartown where you can eat outside - if you can be seated on the outer fringe of the patio, they'll let your dog hang out with you while you eat. Some physical prowess is recommended in using the restroom. Jus' sayin' ;)
