Nature

One of my favorite spots to calm down and get in touch with nature. It’s very close to den Bosch, doable by bike or even public transport. You can walk over an old railway bridge which is out of order. The bridge is surrounded by a little lake containing countless lilies. Watch out, during dawn it’s crowded by mosquitos and other visiting bugs.

Also called the “Brabantse Sahara”: Artificial dunes created in the middle ages by excavating peat. Since 2002 it’s national park. Definitely rent a bike and cycle around for a day, typical Dutch.

It’s best to get there by car. It’s a lake where many locals gather during the hot summer days. You can pay for entrance, with all the supplied luxuries or app me for the locations where you can chill for free.

Amusement park

In my opinion the best amusement park in the world. Started in 1933 as a playground is now the most popular amusement park in the Netherlands. It’s mesmerizing and great for small and big kids (read: adults). Tip for small kids: Visit the fairytales forest, you’ll find all the fairytales there including snow white, cinderella, pinocchio, Hansel and Gretel and many more. On the way out watch the “Aquanura” show when it’s getting dark. Even in the winter is an exquisite sight.

Food & drinks

Best place to get a drink in the summer afternoon on Fridays and during the weekends.

There are countless places to eat. Go to the Frietzaak for the best Dutch fries and definitely try a “kroket” or a “frikandel”.

10. Local treats are “Bossche Bol” which you can get at any street corner, although the real Bosch people will say the only real Bossche Bol is the one from “Jan de Groot pastry” located near the central station. Another treat is the so called “worstenbroodje”, literally translated: “Sausagesandwich”. It doesn’t come close to a sandwich, but when heated up they’re delicious. Go get one at the market on Saturday.

My sister in law has a brewery in the centre where she brews her own famous beer. She came several times on the national radio and brews only locally inspired beers. She open during the weekend. Go visit her at Uilenburg 1.

Nightlife

Nightlife isn’t the best in Den Bosch. Better go to Tilburg or Eindhoven. But if you go in Den Bosch it’s the best to pick a nice terrace and drink there till 23:00. Then I advise the following spots: Karrenstraat, Korte putstraat or “Plein ‘79”.
