Smith Point Beach is a great Ocean beach. Smith Point is really pretty to walk on early morning or go for the day if you want an Ocean Beach day. Believe paid lot starts at 8:30 am so go early if you just want a morning beach walk. We go there all the time early mornings. Follow the lot all the way to the left and you’ll see the parking lot entrance. Some people will picnic at night there too. Mastic Seafood store (15 min drive) from the house and a must if you want to grill or cook seafood. Try and get there early as stuff sells out. Best on Long Island!, or just going part way there for Wertheim Preserve

A few miles west of Bellport, decently bigger town, more commerce. Some good food shopping and decent restaurants. Nice main street with lots of restaurants and live music options if you feel the need a change the scenery; some ferries to Fire Island leave from there. Blue Point is 1-2 miles further west on Montauk Highway. Two popular spots are the Blue Point Brewery (where the namesake beer is made). Tiki Bar is also popular bar in the area with a sandy area. Both of these are very low key and fun vibes. Brickhouse Brewery (Patchogue) - On Montauk Hwy/Main, on the right past N. Ocean. - Brewpub with straightforward food. Probably beer and casual dining place more than fine dining! We have never been... Tong Pan Chang Thai - In Blue Point (59 Montauk Highway, (631) 363-0507), on the right when you head west; 1 mile or so past Patchogue, in a small strip mall across from the Amoco Station, before Nichols Road. Very casual Thai; small family place but it is next to a tattoo parlor in a strip mall! Chachama Grill (Bellport/East Patchogue) On Montauk Hwy, past Bellport, on your right as you drive West. ln the Best Yet shopping mall). Highly rated, very friendly American food. The catch: it is in a strip mall! Decently expensive ($30 or so per main course) but affordable prix fix for fine dining and ambiance is OK only, but many think high quality food and it is pretty full most nights NIGHTLIFE - Patchogue (10 minutes West) is your best bet if you want real nightlife.

Things To Do with Kids

There are playgrounds at the Bellport Marina (great setting), behind the elementary school on Fireplace Neck Road, and some at Southhaven park. We highly recommend the playground at Bellport Marina – all of our friends enjoy it when they come with their children. There is a farm a few miles away with a nice small petting area. It is on Yaphank road, across from the Yaphank train station, a 10 minute or less drive away.
