Food scene

Riga recently opened Gastro Market – food court in one of the Riga Central Market pavilions. Riga Central Market is one of the biggest markets in Europe and are visited by 80 000 people daily. Central Market always is great source of local seasonal produce and prices are the lowest in town as the competition is high. For years market was missing restaurants, cafes, options for lunch and street food. Now the new food court is open in part of gastronomy pavilion. There are around 20 stalls for food. You will find here dumplings, burgers, pizza, bakery, soups, sushi, oysters, waffles, typical local snacks like rye bread with herring, traditional grey peas and not to forget potatoes, grill bar with local fish and meat, tempura, hummus ,vegan and vegetarian options, healthy options and comfort food and many more. Also good place where to stop for coffee or drink during shopping. Here you can find locally roasted Andrito coffee. Big selection of drinks at the main central bar – cocktails, local beers and sider. What about ice-cream I wonder, is there still missing proper ice-cream stand in the market? Well maybe after renovation of Dairy product pavilion which now is under construction. Food court is open 12:00-22:00 and on Fridays and Saturdays Dj’s are performing and working hours are longer 12:00-2:00. Great place for lunch and dinner.
