Food Scene
Guelph is an up and coming food haven surrounded by many farms who sell either from their stands or at the Saturday farmer's market. There are many cafes, and small eateries from Indian to Vietnamese, from Italian to Mexican. My favourites are below.
Run by a true genius Jesse Merrill, this is the best bread anywhere. They sell out by 2pm and are closed Sun/Mon so go early and pick up outstanding spelt bread, mulitseed, and delicious croissants. But truly, everything is fabulous.

Outstanding local food served in a Victrorian home. A small but varied menu, excellently executed every time. This isn't the place to come for a hurried meal; the kitchen takes its time to prepare everything perfectly. Well-worth it. Good for a business get together or a romantic meal.

Sustainably raised meats and lake trout, a tight and well selected group of groceries, dairy, bread from nearby Polestar Bakery, and ready to eat meals are on offer here with a great and knowledgeable staff. Ask for Ieva, Matt or Brian to receive great service all the time.

An 8 minute drive from Piper Hill, this is a great grocery store for all your needs. Excellent produce if you can't make it to the farmers market on Saturday and an large cheese department for entertaining. There's an in-store Starbucks and one right across the street in the adjacent plaza.

Walking/Hiking/Cycling
Arkell, Puslinch and Guelph have wonderful, relatively quiet back country roads and many parks for walking, hiking and cycling. If you are a cyclist, contact me ahead of time and we can put together some good cycling routes for you.

Piper Hill is two hours from the US border for shopping in Buffalo or winery hopping near Niagara-on-the Lake, home to great eating, theatre-going and shoppiing. Without traffic, we are a mere hour from downtown Toronto where you can buy tickets to Broadway shows, Raptors or Blue Jays games, or just walk along Queen St W trying to decide where to eat from among the many independent, international and sensational restaurants of this world class city.
