San Fernando Hill - called Naparima by the Amerindians who were the first settlers of the area - is a must-visit location, just walking distance from the apartment. While much of the original hill has been quarried away, what remains is a national park with hiking trails and stunning views of the city and surrounding area. There are walking trails, a play park for children, picnic areas, seating, an activity/visitor centre and scenic look-outs points.

Listed as one of Trinidad and Tobago's historic sites of note, on the National Trust's Heritage Asset Register, the Devil's Woodyard is one of the most popular mud volcanoes in Trinidad. It is located amid rolling low hills and wide plains. The landscape is noticeably clayey and cracked in places, but it is a peaceful area, yet quite breezy and cool. The volcano can either spew material with violent force or simply release a mild surface upwelling of muddy water accompanied by gas bubbles - this is the more common emissions. There is a park with picnic tables and covered sheds for visitors.
