The Rose Garden offers great Thai, Vietnamese and Lao dishes. Be sure to get the avocado spring rolls! Not much ambience here, but it's close and yummy and affordable. They close at 9p (like most restaurants in Redding). Open M-Sat.

In addition to being a great place to get your photo of "The Three Shastas" (Lake Shasta, Mount Shasta and Shasta Dam), the visitor's center offers free tours of the Dam itself. The history of the construction of this wonder is really pretty interesting. Did you know the concrete inside the dam is still wet?!

Ok, so all the tourists go there, but it really is a great place to take a walk. The bridge itself is lovely and it connects up with the Sacramento River Trail, a lovely paved trail that continues on 17 miles up to Shasta Dam

Super beautiful waterfall - really unique. Not much hiking required. Absolutely worth the drive!

In the summer, the road is open to drive through the park where you can see geothermal areas enjoy spectacular views and access extensive trails. If you're coming to Redding to visit Bethel, it's 2 exits north of me on I-5. It'll take you 12-15 minutes to drive there from my home. There's a service on Friday night at 7pm and 4 services on Sunday: 8am, 10:30am, 1pm and 6pm.
