Food Scene

Bellingham has a population of about 70,000 people. In this town we have over 2500 places that serve espresso. We're serious about coffee around here. If you appreciate artisan coffee, or want to give it a try, skip the familiar chain franchizes and go local for a real treat: Avellino, Adagio, Tony's, Black Drop, and Letter Streets coffee shops will not disappoint.

Fine dining with a spectacular view. Reservation recommended (possibly required during peak times). Be prepared to spend a bit of money, but dinner and wine at sunset will never be forgotten.

If you like Italian... I needn't say more. Casual or semi-formal. Fine dining cuisine, but in a casual atmosphere. Not super cheap, but reasonably priced for the quality.

Drinks & Nightlife

For live music, this is the place to be. The crew that own and operate the place treat everyone like a friend. The acts they book far exceed the caliber of talent you'd expect from a small town. Our community is bursting with talented musicians, producers, DJ's, and performers. Also being right between Seattle and Vancouver, we get a lot of touring acts that love to stop here to play secret off-the-map shows.

Known as a gay bar where all are welcome to come dance and have a good time. Here and Glow are where locals choose to go dancing (as opposed to students that might choose a couple of other places downtown). All of the nightlife clubs are within walking distance. Many do not charge cover or if they do it's just a couple of bucks. Generally no dress codes, casual to formal, choice is yours. It's Bellingham ie laid back.

Bellingham has an amazing Craft Beer Culture. Elizabeth Station is not a brewery, but they showcase hundreds of varieties of local, regional, and international beer, wine, and cider. Get a sample from some of the local breweries, then decide which ones you'd like to visit. There may be more breweries per capita here than any other city in the country. You can also walk from Elizabeth Station to Elizabeth Park--a spectacular little neighborhood park (especially fun for families on Thursday nights in the Summer for Concerts in the Park).

If you like craft beer, this is a good place to start. Ask for a map of all of the local breweries. You can walk to a dozen of them from here... though if you do, you might be stumbling before you see them all ;)

Parks & Nature

During the Summer, you've got 2 amazing swimming holes about 5-10 minutes walk from the backdoor--both with cliff jumping! Use caution! People do occasionally get hurt... Even if you don't want to jump, wading and swimming spots are plentiful. All other times of the year, wondering through the park is always a delight.

Clayton beach is a beautiful beach, about a half mile hike from the parking area. It's at the base of Chuckanut Mountain which has endless options for hiking, biking, and running. Feel free to ask me for favorite trails. Chuckanut drive is a spectacular route for sight-seeing from the car. There are a couple of great restaurants along the way too...

This is a 5 minute drive from the house. Groceries, numerous restaurants, movie theater, and coffee (Woods is a local alternative to Starbucks... not as good as the others I've mentioned, but it's close to the house... the coffee is just a little mild for my taste, but still craft quality).

Sightseeing

Boulevard Park. This is a great hub to check out the beauty and charm of Bellingham. Walk/bike/run from the park. North: to downtown along the level (ish) railroad trail. South: to historic Fairhaven mostly on a new boardwalk over the water, for dining, shopping, lounging, etc. Either way you'll enjoy great waterfront views and lots of smiles from the friendly people that live here.
