Dog Friendly Beach - parking lot fills up fast, though.
There is a beach right off the pier and restaurant. The beach can get pretty crowded, but has a small parking lot and you can rent paddle boards and kayaks here. The hotel also has a tiki bar on the beach.

Pope Beach

Awesome hikes along the Lake along the cliffs. Plenty of rocks to climb and a few really private, secluded beaches. Worth the adventure but make sure you get there early as parking is limited!

At Camp Richardson, this restaurante and bar is right on the lake! It can also get crowded but a good spot for views and to play in the water/have a drink or meal.

Fun family location w/a nice visitor center and paved path (good for strollers and kids) along the creek. Salmon run up the creek in September/October, as well.

One of our favorite hikes to do w/our family. After a short hike through the woods and along the creek, you are exposed to open granite and can basically wander and take this hike as far as you want (and even into desolation wilderness). Great views, along rushing water and plenty of places to adventure!

There is a general store here and you can even take a water taxi across the lake (which will save you about 3 miles of hiking).
Take the trail around the lake and you can pop over the top (towards the beginning of the hike) to get a great vantage point of South Lake Tahoe from the mountains behind our house.

A great hike and views at an entry point to Desolation Wilderness.
There is a general store here and you can even take a water taxi across the lake (which will save you about 3 miles of hiking).
Take the trail around the lake and you can pop over the top (towards the beginning of the hike) to get a great vantage point of South Lake Tahoe from the mountains behind our house.
We love this local park to avoid the crowds.
