Amazing tapas which has locals flocking from all over Bristol. Intimate and cosy, with superb selection of wines and sherries and knowledgeable staff. Gets busy during peak hours but there is a row of seats in the window that are reserved for walk-ins. Not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs due to lack of space.

Neighbourhoods

Beautiful, exclusive Clifton Village is considered to be the most affluent and well-to do area of Bristol. Beautiful Georgian and Victorian architecture is juxtaposed with striking modern buildings such as the Cathedral Church of SS. Peter and Paul. Clifton is home to some of the most iconic sights in Bristol such as the Clifton Suspension Bridge, The Observatory, and Bristol Zoo. Clifton Village itself is full of independent little clothes shops, antique dealers and jewellers, great restaurants and lively pubs and bars. The Clifton Arcade on Boyces Avenue is a beautiful Venetian-style Victorian shopping arcade housing art galleries, even more jewellers and independent boutiques. Plenty of coffee shops and places to grab lunch while people-watching. Surrounded by the stunning Downs - a large area of maintained parkland with a fantastic children's playground, the 'sliding rocks' - a natural slide down the slopes of the rock face, lots of room to run, jog play or walk the dogs. Great all year round but wonderful in the height of summer. Safe and well lit, easy transport on local buses and train to Clifton Down Station. Easy walk (approx 30 mins) from the house.

Affluent suburb of Bristol. Slightly more bohemian than neighbouring Clifton, and home to the University District. Redland and Clifton are divided by Whiteladies Road and both reach up onto the beautiful Durdham Downs. Popular area for students, families and professionals, especially those working in local hospitals, the University and the BBC. Stunning architecture, full of beautiful Georgian and Victorian buildings. Strong community spirit, with many street parties, local summer fairs, plant-sales and a weekly Saturday morning farmer's market at the top of Whiteladies Road. Great local schools make if particularly popular with families. Brilliant local playground in Redland Park. Safe and easy to walk to from the house.

The house is situated right in the heart of Cotham in the University District, close to the Medical School, Engineering departments and Arts and Social Sciences Library. Bordered by Redland, Clifton, Kingsdown and The Arches, Cotham is a bohemian, arty area. Grand Georgian and Victorian villas are home to students, families and professionals. Excellent mix of bars, restaurants, pubs and independent shopping - particularly good charity shops selling vintage wear. Busy without being too much. The Royal Fort Gardens are worth a visit to see the local sculptures. Safe and easy transport to and from the area. On and off street parking available.

A striking Bristol landmark, The Arches marks the separation of Cotham, Gloucester Road, Montpelier and Stokes Croft. I wouldn't necessarily go there just to see what is basically a railway bridge, but it is a good meeting spot to go and explore the adjacent districts of Stokes Croft and Gloucester Road.

The graffiti centre of Bristol. An artistic, bohemian enclave with a vibrant community. The majority of businesses here are independent and fiercely local. The Arts House Cinema shows cult classics and off-beat foreign films, as well as live music and art exhibitions. The Cube Microplex is considered to be one of the best cinemas in England. There is a Street art walking tour around the area detailing the local graffiti and you can learn about the history of famous artists such as Banksy and Inkie. Great live music and wellness classes (yoga, sound healing etc) at the Canteen - also home to the amazing street art 'Breakdancing Jesus' and banksy's Mild, Mild West (80 Stokes Croft). Famous for its nightlife and home to Lakota Club and Blue Mountain.

From The Arches and running through to North Bristol, is the well-known Gloucester Road. This is a particularly bohemian and quirky area, home to the vibrant artistic communities that Bristol is famous for. Superb for vintage shopping and independent clothing boutiques. See the link below for more details and a map of the area. It can get a bit edgy in the evenings, and I wouldn't personally walk here alone at night as a woman, but it's fine in a group and all of my male friends walk alone without problem. https://visitbristol.co.uk/your-visit/areas/gloucester-road-and-stokes-croft

Safety at night

Bristol is generally incredibly safe and a relaxed place to walk around, even after dark. As a man or in a group, I don't think that you will have any problems at all - given the usual provisos. Having said that, there have been cases of rape and sexual assault of lone females walking on quieter residential streets at night so I would always recommend taking a taxi or Uber if you are woman traveling alone in the evening. Personally, I would feel more safe in the Clifton, Redland, Cotham areas at night over Stokes Croft, Gloucester Road and the city centre. Taxis and Ubers are widely available

Homophobia and racism

Bristol is a very cosmopolitan city with zero tolerance of homophobia and racism. Please ensure that you act appropriately towards the LGBQTia+ community and minority ethnic groups, who are well integrated in the community and hugely enrich the culture here.
