Sightseeing

What to see in Roskilde
Roskilde Domkirke. Amazing cathedral and an UNESCO acknowleded cultural heritage. Our kids are baptized in the church, and it is a functional element in the daily local life in the center of Roskilde. Check the website for opening hours and notice that the church is closed when busy with services, weddings etc., so often the weekends has periods of unavailibility for visits.

Absolutely wonderful garden and great for lunch in the summer time. It has a perfect location next to the cathedral, but for some reason it has not been discovered by tourists and is very much a place for locals. It can get busy in the weekends in the summer time, so reservation is advised. Food is traditional danish lunch (smørrebrød etc.)

Grocery shopping in Roskilde

There are three grocery stores in the street: SuperBrugsen (closest to the station), Meny (closest to the square - Stændertorvet) and Irma (closest to our house). All of them are great grocery stores of high quality. If you are going by car, there are also the discount store Fakta (at Rørmosen), apr. 2 km. from the house. The square - Stændertorvet is located in the middle of the walking street, near the cathedral. At the square there is a market every wednesday and saturday. At the mall: Ros Torv has a large grocery store, Føtex.

Water quality

The water in the tap is drinking water quality. Good drinking water actually. That goes both for the apartment, but also in restaurants where it is absolutely fine to ask for tap water - good for the wallet and for the climate :)

Our favorite restaurants in the walking street

Gorm's: Really good, crispy gourmet pizza (and anti-pasti). Both take-away and eat-in. The restaurant is cozy and worth visiting. Namaste: Indian food - really tasty and the restaurant is cozy. Both take-away and eat-in. Café Korn: It's a café serving local produce. They have the best chicken salad - just saying. The weekend brunch is good, but very popular. You have to reserve table in advance. Brasserie Florentz: Nice brasserie, great for both lunch and dinner. Restaurant Mumm: Fine dining. Expensive, but soooo good. For a treat or celebration of a special occation. Reservation required.
