SPAC is an amazing venue which brings all kinds of A-list music to our area. Grab an early dinner and town and then head for a show. It's about an hour from the Schoolhouse, so it makes for a fun night out.

Bronwyn-on-Battenkill is a restaurant and bar nestled between the Green and Taconic Mountains on the banks of the Battenkill river in Arlington, Vt. Chef Tim Wiechmann draws on his cultural heritage to create hand-crafted sausages (kielbasa and brats to name a few…) pork schnitzels (that Beat Bobby Flay!), traditional noodles (think cheesy-cheddar Spatzle with bacon) and other specialties like Riesling sauerkraut or giant fresh baked pretzels. An extensive list of german and vermont craft beers make what’s coming out of the kitchen even better. The chef’s wife, Bronwyn, is the restaurant’s namesake.
On the inside the restaurant feels like a rustic European tavern, dressed up with the treasures from the Chef’s travels including oversized antique chairs and tables. Upon entering the vibe is Old Europe and cozy laid-back Vermont, with ornate woodworking and a warming wood-fire nestled in the rear dining room. Two fantastically distinctive biergartens overlook the mountains and the serenity of Vermont during the warmer summer months.

Our terrain is mixed from easy, short wooded loops that keep skiers out of the wind and near the ski center to longer treks out to picnic tables placed at scenic vistas. We meticulously groom 35 km of ski trails for both classic and skate ski techniques and have 4 km of dedicated snowshoe trails. Snowshoes are allowed on most of our ski trails and if conditions are right, fat bikes too.

This remote, winding, dirt road follows a mountain river up into the Green Mountain National Forest. If you're feeling adventurous, and want to poke into the wilderness, but pop out the other side, it's a fun excursion off the beaten path.

At 2 hours away, this isn’t someplace you can pop out for a swim, but it is one of my favorite places in Vermont, so I have to include it on a list of swimming holes. It’s a series of carved, cascading deep pools that are a magical emerald green color. Put this on your Vermont check list for sure. (Try to go on a weekday if you can.)

It’s a series of carved, cascading deep pools that are a magical emerald green color. Put this on your Vermont check list for sure. (Try to go on a weekday if you can.)

Named for it's lovely emerald green water, this is a great park for a picnic and a swim. It does get very crowded on the weekends, but weekdays are fine. There is a large sandy swimming area and boats for rent as well.

This iconic swimming hole is quite the scene on a summer weekend, but worth braving the crowd for. There are a bunch of well-worn jumping spots for those who like to leap off of high places, and a shallower area for the more reserved. (But I would not say this a relaxing place to bring your toddler for the afternoon.) Utterly beautiful.

Dorset Quarry
1848 VT-30This iconic swimming hole is quite the scene on a summer weekend, but worth braving the crowd for. There are a bunch of well-worn jumping spots for those who like to leap off of high places, and a shallower area for the more reserved. (But I would not say this a relaxing place to bring your toddler for the afternoon.) Utterly beautiful.
This is an extremely remote and peaceful lake deep in the Green Mountain National forest. There is a public parking area, boat launch, and walking trails, but it is very much a self-serve park. The dirt roads that lead you through the park are beautiful and very remote. Cell service is patchy, so you might want to print out the directions on paper as back up. Bring a canoe and a picnic, and have lunch out on one of the islands!

PLAYGROUND | If you're looking for a fantastic playground to take your kids, this is the place! It has a huge wooden castle with bridges, slides, and secret passage ways. The signage to get you there is really poor, so keep your eyes peeled!

River frontage on the iconic Battenkill river, which our kids love to wade and play in. There is also a free, pitch and put golf course. (There is no golf club house/pro shop. You bring your own equipment and balls.)
