My favourite. 20 mins drive with a fabulous walk (or row!) on the river. Dedham is charming and relaxed and the Sun is fabulous for dinner or lunch after. Wonderful beer garden and open fires!

Another great eatery 20 mins drive from the house. Great seafood. On the water and they also have a fantastic cook shop and sell some great wines!

Mersea is a nearby island and so sweet. Pretty beaches and a village atmosphere. The shed is the real deal- fish and crabs cooks straight from the fishermen. It’s a simple place with classic food. Bring your own wine if you want. It’s very, very charming.

A lovely restaurant with a fabulous terrace overlooking the vines! Incredible on a sunny day. Buy some great English wines from the shop after. Excellent for families with young kids as they have a little playground on site!

A gem. Where Constable painted his iconic The Haywain. There’s a great national trust cafe, and wonderful walks. You can also walk here from Dedham. Or row, in summer!

Neighbourhoods
Really sweet little island with several beach areas. My favourite is the beach closest to The Comoany Shed. But it’s all very English with beach huts and ice creams everywhere. Also lovely in the winter.

A gem. Go rowing is summer or waking all year. See Constables The Haywain - untouched since he painted it. Try the “scone of the month” in the cafe, or visit the R.S.P.B. Garden where’s there is always activities for kids in summer or at weekends.
