All of the amenities from touring the little towns, shops, hiking, skiing, rock climbing are all less than an hour drive, Drive almost all of the way to the top of Whiteface mountain via the Veterans memorial highway and hike a small distance to the top for a photo of a lifetime, On the lower mountain you can take the gondola round trip up to the top of Little Whiteface and for the more adventurous take a mountain bike to the bottom.
