Small Brazilian café where you can find a lot of the country’s delicacies, including a meat pasty that you have to try! Also try the Açaí juice (a bit expensive due to the rarity of the fruit, €4-€5 but worth it). Local favorite!

Oh the Francesinha… Yes you have to try it, and for many locals, this small place on Rua da Alegria is the best one! The potato chips are homemade, the sauce is brilliant, and the ingredients are of excellent quality. Go early because although it’s not usually crowded, it doesn’t have a lot of tables.

If you like chocolate, please go to Chocolataria Equador. Besides being in a lovely renovated building which maintains its original flooring and wood, the chocolate is divine… it all comes from Equador. Try the Port wine, passion fruit, raspberry truffles.

Perfect for Mexican lovers, this fancy and eclectic restaurant has delicious (pricey, but worth it) Mexican food. Located in the arts neighborhood Miguel Bombarda, it has one of the best Margueritas in town. Beware if you’re not one for spicy foods though, on the side of each dish name there is the degree of spicy-ness so you can choose the best one for you.

Sightseeing

Base is a Caffé/Bar located in a lovely garden (the Olive Trees Garden) with music playing, where you can chill or read a book on the grass during the day and hang out having a drink at night. It really is a lovely place to go relax and just be. Base is also a little elevated from the ground, so you have an amazing view of Torre dos Clérigos (right next to you) and Lello Library among others. During the summer there are a lot of live concerts of Brazilian Music.

Drinks & Nightlife

Rua Galerias de Paris (commonly only called Galerias) is an iconic street where everyone goes to have a drink during the weekends (or during the week). Galerias actually consists of two streets, which locals refer to as “High Street” (Rua Galerias de Paris) and “Down Street” (Rua Cândido dos Reis) since they are parallel and both have bars, but actually only one of them is called “Rua Galerias de Paris”, a curiosity some people don’t know. Since you don’t pay to get in at most bars, try getting in and out and see what you like the most.
