Food Scene

CLASSIC "New Columbus" restaurant that started the Columbus foodie explosion in 2005. I worked at the Short North location in 2006; but this spot is right close to our place. An iconic beet-based veggie burger ... try it for yourself; and make yourself nuts for a decade trying to figure out how to copy the recipe at home! Northstar features a really incredible variety of architectural zones inside, for any and all moods/arrangement. Have a date, have a business meeting, have your family out for a kid's birthday, etc. Magazines to read/spill food on, too! PRO TIP: Try the citrus crunch salad with the sweet potato fries. PRO TIP: If you pay $7, you can get fries PLUS a kids' chicken sammy.

What can I say? Jeni's is THE Columbus ice cream. Also worked for Jeni -- this place is *the* Columbus local food entrepreneur story zone. Jeni is the real deal. If you haven't heard: she's who started the salty caramel craze. Come in for the samples on waste-free tiny metal spoons. Best yet: they've FINALLY started offering a non-dairy coconut-based ice cream line. I begged Jeni to do this back in 2012, so I'mma take all the credit for this one. PRO TIP: Get yr ice cream on a cone and walk down High Street and up Croswell to hit up Park of Roses the back way ... right at the rose gardens. You can thank me later.

There's nothing else to say. Best food in town. I'm obsessed with Dosa and Dosa Corner takes the cake. Get the Chana Masala Dosa Combo and ask them to add Hyderabad Spicy chutney. Don't forget the idly and medhu vada!!!

Not at all my vibe or scene, but Portia has been a part of the healthy food revolution in Columbus for a long time. They have some awesome wraps on an injera-like gluten-free wrap that are fairly good, with dehydrated raw "patties." Vibe is very embarassing old-skool hippy-dippy; but this is THE spot for vegan and GF folks with alot of sensitivities. PRO TIP: Get the savory patty wrap and add Spanako dip, with a cup or bowl of the Coconut Curry soup, and a vegan mounds bar for dessert. Forgive the decor. This is a very "Live Laugh Love" wall tattoo sort of place. Whatever. They mean well & serve clean food at real cost.

The best coffee shop in town; and also a fair trade shop. My brother used to work there. PRO TIP: Home of Columbus' most awesome farmers' market on Saturday mornings, from 9am-noon. Don't support some big chain coffee spot ... come to Global Gallery! PS -- They have local beer. On tap.

This community co-operative farmstead led by my friend and colleague Rachel is a private homestead; but also host to co-operative Northside neighborhood farm Foraged & Sown, which operates across four properties in the North Linden neighborhood. Definitely check-in before stopping by; but follow their website to see about the many classes, tours, and pop-up farmstands that Foraged & Sown offers throughout the season! Come support local, urban, organic, women-led agriculture and community food access at it's finest!

Drinks & Nightlife

I don't drink, but this is the best spot in town. Sleepy little perfect evening spot next to the old Bud Dairy in Italian Village. Homegrown -- started as a concept at the North Market and became Columbus' most beloved local brewery. Get here before all the bros find out and ruin it! PRO TIP: Different local food trucks park here each night! Also, look out for Assistant Manager Cat!

Parks & Nature

Right across High Street from our place. Dreamiest park in the city. Come for weird roses, to watch people, to watch the sunset over the soccer fields, to watch other peoples' Great Danes, or to access the Olentangy Trail to get downtown, to OSU, or to some random grocery store in Worthington! PRO TIP: Bike up the Olentangy Trail on a Saturday AM for progressive visits to many of the best farmers' markets in North Columbus! It's always shockingly cool along the trail.

My childhood dam, out in a sleepy little corner of Westerville! It's not *the* Hoover Dam; but it's ours! Awwww.

So, come for the incredible community-driven, women-led medicine, stay for the economic justice <333 For those interested: this is where we get our guest soaps!!! Stop by Boline and get some of your own! Tell Lily that Jess sent you!

It's kind of gourmet -- like: they have yogurt-covered almonds from Switzerland; but not local kale; but it's also super close-by and within walking distance from our listing! Great for teas, a quick kombucha, or ... fancy wafers from European nations.

Shopping

Our beloved local urban farm shop, led by two incredible women who are movers & shakers in our local food scene. Come for local seedlings, organic amendments, the best Weck jar selection anywhere ... and, sometimes: baby ducks!!!!

Arts & Culture

Our incredible state history organization -- yes, it's a history museum; but OHC is also home to our state historic preservation office, state archaeological organization, our state local history field service alliance, our state archives, and so much more! Come to see a giant mammoth and stay for the 1950's Lustron House! (It's magnetic!) I've interned and worked at OHC, so happy to chat state & local history with anyone who is interested; and to give some insider tips as to what to check out at OHC!!! Don't miss this gem in an iconic brutalist building just two stops South on I-71!!! <333
