Set in a fabulous backdrop of hills (Mam Tor - the 'Shivering Mountain'; Loose Hill and Win Hill) famous for Blue John - a beautiful blue/amethyst stone, with a history dating back to Norman times - it takes its name from the castle which stands above the town which once guarded William the Conqueror's Royal Forest. It also has four show caves and the imaginatively named 'Devil's Arse' - plenty to do and see.
