I love this location for a family educational day out , well thought out , trails for walking with information boards listing habitats and wildlife facts. Only 5 miles away has a lovely tearoom on a good day tables outside a play area with sand pit , a varity outdoor toys. The have a collection of rare breed animals ; pigs and birds.
The natural trail with its many Lochs and wetland habitats
good paths means birds and animals can be viewed safely regardless of weather. A true gem and it shows with commitment and vision that a once industrial site can be transformed into a sanctuary for nature and provide a legacy for the community. Well done to this team of dedicated people .

Just a quick car run and you are at the visitor centre, run by well informed rangers, from the viewing station you can shelter and watch the different birdlife arrive , leave , feed nest so much activity never boring a great educational day out for the family. Guided walks with the ranger can be arranged.

With its naturally dramatic setting perched high on a cliff surrounded on one side by sea ; it can only inspire the imagination, the site of legends. It is truly a haunting and evocative location . Although mainly in ruin much of the Castle survives and you can walk within its walls and tower rooms . A fabulous day out regardless of the weather just to experience the sky the setting the wildness a photographers dream .
