A lot of people don’t know that one of the largest collections of coastal redwoods in the Bay Area is right in the Oakland Hills. I go to this massive park with my family all the time. It has tons of hiking trails and meadows to get out and stretch your legs. There are also plenty of picnic tables, so pack a lunch and make a day out of it. If you go during the week, you don't have to pay for parking.
Tips van locals
Redwood Regional Park is an oasis of redwood trees on this side of the bay. If parking and getting to Muir Woods sounds like too much of a hassle, consider Redwood as a more serene alternative.
Redwood Park in Oakland! For when you only want to drive 15 minutes as opposed to an hour to Muir Woods.
We enjoyed being surrounded by redwoods and greenery on our hikes these last two days at Leona Canyon Open Space and Redwood Regional Park.
An amazing trail system in the Oakland Hills. The park contains the largest remaining natural stand of coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) found in the East Bay. The park is part of a historical belt of coast redwood extending south to Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve and east to Moraga.

“[Alameda] Well, Oakland actually. Its a 30 minute bus or 15 minute drive away. A beautiful 3 or so mile walking and biking route around the lake. Best viewed around sunset. Can be romantic on warm nights (which unfortunately are rare).”

“Telescopes open to the public on weekend evenings. Small museum that's great for kids on rainy days. Get into a space capsule or try out other interactive exhibits. ”

“A historic and always lively venue. Great musical, comedy and other shows to see. It is a central hub of Oakland's history, with great places nearby to check out and explore. Catch a show while in town!”
