Parks & Nature

Great place for fun on a sunny day. Rent bikes and ride around the beautiful island of Djurgården which is a part of Stockholm and contains parks, channels, museums and an amusement park. Of the museums, I'd strongly recommend the Wasa museum containing remarkably well preserved remains of a ship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. Also, Skansen, the world's first open-air museum, founded in 1891 should not be missed if the weather is nice. Here you can stroll through five centuries of Swedish history, from north to south, with a real sense of the past all around in the historical buildings and dwellings, peopled by characters in period dress. If you're interested in art and more specifically Swedish painters and interesting exhibitions, don't miss the Thielska Gallery or Waldemars udde museum. More info concerning these places can be found on the internet. Beware of pick pockets in crowded areas!!

This is a beautiful park just a stone's throw from Vasastan, the part of town where my apartment os located. The park is royal in the sense that houses the Haga palace where the Swedish Crown Princess and her family live. It was founded by the Swedish king Gustaf III in the late 18th century. There is also a royal cemetery on a small island close to the entrance of the park. The park is great for jogging or just walking or having a pick nick. In the winter it's also possible to do ice skating when ice has forme

Food Scene

Classic downtown restaurant with lots of traditional food, mixed range of customers, a bit pricey, but great fun. Entrance is free.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Stockholm. It's a bit on the pricey side, but it's worth it. They serve mostly traditional Swedish or Nordic dishes. The atmosphere is laid back and the ambiance good. You'll like it. It'll take you max 7 minutes to walk there from my apartment.

If you like Ethiopian food, this is your place. It's close to my apartment. I've been there more times than I can count. They serve a whole range of Ethiopian dishes and the authenticity of the food is probably really good because many Swedish-Ethiopians come here. The prices are in the medium range.

This place is just a few minutes by foot from my apartment. It's a British style pub with countless types of beer and whiskey. They also serve a limited range of basic, but good food. The atmosphere is friendly, laid-back and convivial. The service is usually excellent. Prices are decent by Swedish standards, but be aware that beer from small and foreign breweries can sometimes set you back up to 80 SEK and more for a bottle.. You won't find many other tourists here.

This is a very popular restaurant close to my apartment. The interior reminisces of those classic old restaurants from the 50's. Many of the servants seem to have been there for ages. The food is often typically Swedish, but they have a pretty big variety. The crowd can sometimes be a bit rowdy, but always friendly. It's a great place. Prices are in the medium range.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is one of the most "in" places to go to in Stockholm once you're 30 years old and above. The crowd is mixed in style, backgrounds and ages. It can get REALLY crowded around midnight, but that's half the fun. You can start the evening by having dinner there and then end up at mingling at the bar. My only reservation is the fact that you may end up in a line outside the place unless you arrive before 10PM. If you get there after midnight you may have to wait in line for more than you like. This is one of the sad features with the Stockholm night life.

Arts & Culture

Visit the home of a noble family from the early 20th century. The place has been left pretty much untouched since the last proprietor passed away and bequeathed the house to the city of Stockholm. This is sort of a hidden gem and you won't find too many tourists here.

Getting Around

If the weather is nice and you'd like to discover the archipelago, I'd suggest a daytrip to a small island called Grinda. Bring some snacks, a blanket and you can swim, relax or just explore the island. Take the boat early in the morning and return whenever you feel like it. I brought some American relatives there in the summer a few years back and they loved it. Speedboats from downtown Stockholm leave frequently. Check "Cinderella" (the boats) and "Grinda" on google for more info.
