As D.C.'s oldest neighborhood, it's known for its 18th and 19th-century Federal-style row houses, cobblestone streets, and the historic C&O Canal. It's a premier spot for upscale shopping with a mix of high-end boutiques and well-known brands, especially along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. My personal favorite thing to do is strolling through the gardens at Dumbarton Oaks during the spring and summer after a brunch. It's also home to Georgetown University.

Kayaks and canoes can be rented in season, and bike trails will take you as far as Mount Vernon and beyond. -Many options for clothing and other goods up and down M St and Wisconsin Ave. We recommend Made in DC for crafty made-local souvenirs. -The “Book Hill” stretch of Wisconsin Ave near Book Hill Park has multiple galleries and antique stores that are fun to browse.
