As D.C.'s oldest neighborhood, it's known for its 18th and 19th-century Federal-style row houses, cobblestone streets, and the historic C&O Canal. It's a premier spot for upscale shopping with a mix of high-end boutiques and well-known brands, especially along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. My personal favorite thing to do is strolling through the gardens at Dumbarton Oaks during the spring and summer after a brunch. It's also home to Georgetown University.

-Head to the Waterfront Park for views of the Potomac River. Kayaks and canoes can be rented in season, and bike trails will take you as far as Mount Vernon and beyond. -Many options for clothing and other goods up and down M St and Wisconsin Ave. We recommend Made in DC for crafty made-local souvenirs. -The “Book Hill” stretch of Wisconsin Ave near Book Hill Park has multiple galleries and antique stores that are fun to browse.
