Behind the temple is Wat Mahawan Massage. They have plenty of staff who will provide a Thai or foot massage one hour for 150 baht (plus tip, say between 20 and 50 baht, given direct to the masseuse). Love going here, not just because its inexpensive but because they give a great massage. Very friendly, professional and relaxing. When you've finished just a short walk to Tha Phae Gate and all that this area has to offer. This is one of the placesThais go for a massage (a Thai took me there the first time).

What sets this temple apart from many others in Chiang Mai is that it hasn't started charging people to visit. Many others have and I consider this a sad step - but understandable somewhat - to combat the bus loads of tourists that can descend on a temple. This temple has a number of attractive buildings, pretty gardens and covers a good area. The massage parlour here is particularly good. Much more pleasing to look at the temple gardens when being massaged than the interior of a shop. And pretty unique here is the offer of a .hammer massage'. It doesn't hurt any more than a usual massage and is quite a change.
