The best one day walk in the world :) Here at Discovery we are passionate about the Tongariro National Park and helping our guests experience the very best the region has to offer. We are the closest to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing start and also have the earliest shuttle bus. It will be a fantastic adventure! There are quite some good reasons to get up early and book the popular early Discovery shuttle bus! • Early morning in the mountains is incredibly pretty and pristine. The beautiful morning light will give you some picture opportunities you don’t want to miss. • It is still very busy on the track, especially weekends. The track is narrow and easily gets congested, with people having to wait for other people to move on. • It also means you can finish the uphill hikes before it gets hot. Once the sun hits the rock, the rock heats up quickly and reflects the heat back at you. It is so good to get to the top before it gets hot and before it gets busy. • You are in very good hands. We have 20 years of experience and are very good at reading the weather forecast. Your driver is also a commercial helicopter pilot and trained to interpret weather maps. • In the mountains the mornings are often clear, with cloud building up from 10 am and a summer shower in the afternoon. • Leaving early means you can see the sun come up behind the mountains which is absolutely magic. • You will have plenty of time for little detours and breaks. • You can take it easy and enjoy the scenery to the fullest. • And often forgotten, if you get injured then there is time to get you off that mountain before dark. • With the Discovery bus you can cancel at any time at no charge, even at departure, and get a full refund. WIth most other operators this is not possible! Depending on the conditions we leave around 5am. If the weather is not great and if it is not that busy then sometimes we leave a bit later. It will be a fantastic adventure 😊 If the first bus fills up than the second bus will leave half an hour later When you book your Tongariro Alpine Crossing transport with the Discovery bus then you can leave your car, campervan or tent up safely at Discovery during your hike. One of the most beautiful tracks in the world . We recommend you drive to the Ketetahi carpark and get a shuttle from there to the beginning of the track. This car park is at the end of the track. The advantage of this is that you do not need to be back at set time and you have your car waiting when finished. There are several shuttle companies all priced at around $35 per person. We do not have a recommendation as to which is best. I would go with one that offers a secure or security patrolled carpark.

Take a 19km hike across a live volcano. Recognised as the best 1 day hike in the world. This is a serious adventure in a world heritage national park.
